    GN250 Side Stand Interlock Switch

I got a new GN250 and reading through the Owner's Manual [page 20]
    Side Stand
it refers to "an interlock switch is provided to cut off the ignition circuit when the side stand is down and the transmission is in any gear other that neutral."

Ah Hum no this is not the case on Buck's new GN250.

I haven't taken this up with the dealership yet, would be interested in feedback from any other GN250 riders if they have or have not this interlock switch feature.

    Regards Buck

I believe the guy I work next to at work commented the same thing on his 06 GN250. AFAIK the manual is multi-country, but the NZ spec ones don't have that switch. No biggy.

My ZZR has a similar switch for the sidestand. It only cuts the engine when the clutch lever is released, so it can be started in gear, with the clutch in (sidestand out) and as you go to take off - killed.

Had me totally confuddled the first time it happened.

Probably could be called the "Idiot-Switch"

Hey something like that could save me a lot of imbarassment... I sometimes stop in first with the clutch in, kick the sidestand out then release the clutch just to have the bike jerk to a stop.... I gotta start remembering to put it into bloody neutral....
I have deep pockets. It's just that it's a deep empty pocket...........

One less thing to fall off or break
mine never had one either btw
after about 1500ks the back of your muffler might fall out too, keep an ear out for an increase in noise sounds pretty good without it

There's a circular bit rivited into the end of your muffler. Mine had the wrong size holes drilled for the rivits they used, so after a while it worked its way loose and almost fell off (was only hanging on by one rivit).
I fixed it permanently by tapping the holes out and screwing it on with some nice stainless cap screws.
I'm not sure how common it is, but i've seen a couple with the end missing. Hopefully you got a good one

The only other thing i had a problem with was the tyres. They are quite slippery (especially in the rain). If you haven't already it would pay to have at least the front tyre replaced. I had my front replaced with a pirelli city demon which feels 10 times better than the stock tyre. Get the stickiest rubber you can find, you'll need it when some idiot pulls out in front of you

apart from that, its been a great little bike for me. good value for its price.

Thanks for that Twinkle, actually brother in law brought your earlier post about the tyre to my attention too. Will definitely look at the pirelli.

My GSXR250 cuts the engine if you kick it into gear with the stand down.
Had me confused after the first time I rode it; pulled up (clutch in), put the stand down, it died and wouldnt start.
Took me a minute to realise what had happened.
I can still start it in gear with the stand up.

Yeah that's the friggin americans for you, their bikes have interlocks for everything. One of my XV's had an interlock on the clutch lever as well as the neutral indicator to stop you starting it in gear! A surprising number of riders have had bad accidents with the old left hand corner after leaving the stand down and a few manufacturers have been stung by law suits.

mine doesnt have that...thank god. i can only see it being a big hassle!! ive just worked it into my routine.....on bike, off stand. stand up, headlight on, into gear and out the gate. then its the reverse for stopping...stand down, lights off, engine cut.

I'm not sure any other procedure would work even without the bloody interlocks, unless you like starting your bike while it is on the stand. Come to think of it how would you test run it it you couldn't run it while it was on the stand? It would fall on top of you while you were tinkering with the idle nut - now there's another lawsuit for the bike manufacturers!

Most sidestand switch's are linked to the gear postion sensor.Easy way to check is to start the engine with the sidestand up,put the bike into gear holding the clutch in then put the sidestand down. The engine will cut out.The side stand switch will only work in a in gear situation.

I disabled it on the TL for the same reasons as Sunhuntin,i put the sidestand up as soon as the bike is vertical without even thinking about it..works for me but of course the repercussions of turning with the stand down can only be ugly.
