    Wednesday, Practice Week

Wednesday evening’s TT practice session brought some frustration for McAdoo Kawasaki Racing’s Ian Hutchinson as he recorded some good times, but could have been so much better.

As on the previous practice evening, Hutchy began on the McAdoo Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R Superbike and his opening ‘standing start’ lap was a speed of 123.498mph. He then went on to record his fastest lap of the week so far at 124.51mph, which slots him in to fourth place overall in the Superbike times. However, the lap was slowed by running out of fuel over the last few miles and having to coax the bike back to the pits.

The McAdoo Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R Superstock bike was then fired up and Ian recorded a lap of 121.50mph from another standing start. On the second and flying lap, Hutchy really started to get dialled in on the ZX-10R Superstocker and at Cronk Ny Mona on lap two had shaved an excellent 21.2 seconds off his opening lap speed and was comfortably heading for the week’s fastest Superstock speed when again, he ran out of fuel. Unfortunately, this completely scrubbed the lap but at least it’s better to do these things in practice than race day. Even with this problem, Ian’s opening Superstock lap was good enough for Wednesday’s evening’s second spot in the class.

Glad you lot are enjoying these updates!!

Dave Jeffries - what can you say about the guy?! from what i've seen (the DVD & tv footage), read & heard about him, he was a great mate, son and rider.

It was an honour to take part in the "Jeffries Memorial Run" during TT04; you could tangibly sense everyone's admiration for a life ended way too early.

Just to put these times in perspective; last year McGuiness set a record of 126.8, if I remember correctly. They're not far off that now!

Well, some bad news tonight, I'm sure Eman will say more, but apart from a few minor offs and retirements, there was a sidecar crash. Dave Molyneux and Craig Hallam crashed at Rhencullen, both have been air-medded to hospital, and their unit caught on fire shortly after the crash too. Dave, at last update had chest and arm injuries, and Craig had road rash.

Good luck to them for recovery, will be different without Moly flying over Ballaugh and whipping everyone else's arses....

    Thursday, Practice Week

News late Wednesday of a lap at 127.81 miles an hour by John McGuinness, breaking – unofficially – his own outright record of 127.68 set up two years ago. His Superbike Honda stopped the clock at 17 minutes 42.73 seconds on his second circuit of the night.

This afternoon’s practice session for the Isle of Man TT was halted when a sidecar crashed.

It happened at Rhencullen, about 16 miles from the start, and involved the machine of Dave Molyneux, the outright sidecar lap record holder and 11-times TT winner. Molyneux and his passenger Craig Hallam were taken to Noble’s Hospital, by helicopter, and the sidecar practice resumed after 40 minutes.

"Rhencullen - it's one of my favourite places. I tend to show off there a bit - I always have done! It gives me a personal buzz. You approach parallel with the kerb on the left, which sticks out a bit just as you approach the rise with the 30 signs and I usually just hook back. What I try to get through to young riders that I have taken round, or any newcomers, is although it seems that you have to scream your engine, it is best to actually shut the throttle, hook back a gear and drive it over the rise. The tendency is to get mega-big wheelies but over the years I've sort of perfected it. It gave me a buzz to actually do a wheelie there. You have ample time to drop it and it sets you up perfectly to throw it into the right, through the left, hook another gear just as you're going over the rise. I only discovered a few years ago that you could just go straight over past the little cottage on the right. The wall was quite a way back down the hill, so you had plenty of road and it's so smooth. It took me years to learn! " (Hizzy)

Earlier, Guy Martin got the session underway with a lap of 126.799 miles an hour, from a standing start, on his Superbike Yamaha and followed this up with a second lap of 124.771.

Bruce Anstey was also up there at 123.897 while Carl Rennie posted 123.897 and Adrian Archibald 122.152 and 122.373. Anstey’s Superbike Suzuki was to go even faster later in the session, at 126.146, making the New Zealander the second fastest of the afternoon.

John McGuinness, who set up an unofficial lap record the previous evening, was also in the mix with a lap of 124.651 on his Honda.

TT Superbike: Guy Martin, Yamaha, 126.799; Bruce Anstey, Suzuki, 126.146; Ian Lougher, Honda, 125.073.
TT Superstock: John McGuinness, Honda, 122.359; Gary Carswell, Suzuki, 121.525; Guy Martin, Yamaha, 121.513.
TT Supersport: Bruce Anstey, Suzuki, 121.843; Ian Hutchinson, Kawasaki, 120.041; Chris Palmer, Honda, 118.942.
Sidecars: Nick Crowe/Darren Hope, Honda 110.113; Gary Bryan/Colin Hardman, Baker Yamaha, 109.576; Simon Neary/Stuart Bond, Baker Yamaha, 108.173.

Fantastic stuff. I went to the IoM TT in 1988. As a young Kiwi on his OE. Hitched from London up to the ferry terminal and when I got to Douglas I realised I had no money to stay in a hotel for the 2 weeks (I was younger and dumber) so I wandered around from hotel to hotel until one agreed to give me a room and board in return for dishwashing after breakfast and dinner. Meant I had the whole day to wander around and watch racing. It was spectular then and I can only imagine it has got even better.

Better news about Moly, he has some shoulder injuries, and also friction burns I think. He is in a general ward and described as "comfortable". Craig Hallam has been discharged as far as I know. There is talk of Moly perhaps racing. Who knows.....

About to take my camera to Ballaugh Bridge, before even more people arrive.... Was great at the afternoon practice, got to see Martin Finnegan jump it like a dirt biker, I reckon he got a good metre and a half off the deck...

It's been reported on one of the UK sidecar sites that Moly has had to have a operation to get his dislocated shoulder back into place, he also has broken ribs a chipped hip and may have to have a skin graft on his leg

He may not race at the TT again as next year he intends to focus on doing the World Champs

I'd love a go on a outfit around there

They also reported Bruce Anstey hit 206.1 mh down Sulby straight

    Friday, Practice Week

Conditions were near-perfect for Friday night’s Isle of Man TT practice session – the last before racing commences tomorrow.

Ian Lougher – the first man to complete a lap - led the way on his Superbike Honda at 125.229 miles an hour followed by Ian Hutchinson’s Kawasaki at 123.974, Martin Finnegan’s Honda (123.03) and the Yamaha of Jason Griffiths (122.512.)

Just when it looked as if Lougher’s early lap would be the fastest of the night, Bruce Anstey took his Suzuki round in 18 minutes 4.20 seconds towards the end of the session, a lap of 125.279, to claim the honour. Ian Hutchinson reverted to his Superbike and also topped the 125 mark with a circuit at 125.084.

TT Superbike: Bruce Anstey, Suzuki 125.279; Ian Lougher, Honda, 125.229; Ian Hutchinson, Kawasaki, 125.084.
TT Supersport: John McGuinness, Honda, 120.784; Ian Lougher, Honda, 119.203; Mark Parrett, Yamaha, 119.105.
TT Superstock: John McGuinness, Honda, 124.152; Ian Hutchinson, Kawasaki, 124.066; Gary Carswell, Suzuki, 122.860.
Sidecars: Nick Crowe/Darren Hope, Honda, 110.853; Klaus Klaffenbock/Christian Parzer, Honda, 110.286; Steve Norbury/Scott Parnell, Shelbourne Yamaha 109.927.

The two riders who were involved in a high-speed collision in Monday night’s practice – Seamus Greene and Jun Maeda – are now both receiving further treatment in UK hospitals.

Eleven times Sidecar TT winner Dave Molyneux is a patient in Noble’s Hospital, Douglas after dislocating his shoulder in a crash at Rhencullen during Thursday afternoon’s practice. He told Manx Radio TT that he had now ridden in his last Sidecar TT, although he was not giving up racing entirely.

Korn - DJ may have been 'big boned' - but he weren't fat!
K14 - two strokes last raced in '04

    Just thought I'd add some more Hizzy commentary - makes you realise how hard these guys are having to work! This is coming up to the 11th milestone;

"Out onto the Cronk-y-Voddy where you're pulling top gear along there, it's fairly bumpy. The problem is at the far end, or just beyond Sartfell Crossroads as it steps up about 3 or 4 feet at the end. If it's a calm day and there's no wind, you should be able to get a 750cc flat in top gear through there but the problem is, as you crank through the end and as the road drops away the bike starts to wheelie. That's OK on a calm day, but if the wind catches it, it starts to take the bike towards the bank. You lose all your steering in effect so you have to watch there. You go down towards the 11th milestone which is probably one of my favourite sections because there is a little rise just before the 11th and, just as it dips, the thing comes up on it's back wheel. Then you go straight through the middle of the right hand lane, through the first bit, let the bike glide into the left bank, back shift a couple of gears and then into the real tight right hander at the bottom. If you just aim to dangle your knee over the kerb on the left, work hard at the right hander and the whole road just opens up and there's about 3 left handers including the little bridge. You're just splitting the road on each, right through the middle and it's perfect, similar to the Verandah."(Hizzy)
