Thats pretty shitty that Ian got disqualified... There was no power advantage, and they said it as inadvertant aswell...

It is shitty BUT, rules are rules, if the shoe had been on the other foot, macadoo would have wanted the same thing to happen to move them up the board.

I'm sorry to report Jun Maeda didn't make it.
He has passed away due to injuries from his crash during practice week.
Until the end, he spoke of getting better & returning to the IOM.

Saw him in the pits once; seemed a cool kat. Quick smile, friendly, but piss poor english! Out on track he gave it the berries!

The Irish lad is Stable but there were a 3 other tragic events two in the classic side car and and one in the sidecar

The star of the races yesterday for me would be Nick Crowe and Darren Hope - not only did they win by a big margin, for the second time in 3 days, but they continued to pull away from second place despite the ECU cutting out 'every mile or so' and Nick having to reset it (button press on the handlebar) for the last lap and a half.

Pretty incredible stuff Oh and Roy Hanks getting in third at the age of 58

Is the IOM simulator still at Rotovegas where the luges and stuff is... it was an on board lap from a race in the late 80's by the looks but was real cool(even better when youre pissed hehe)

Well, I'm off to Holland for a rest too..... Absolutely knackered, but I had a great two weeks courtesy of Juan and Ruth. Thanks to them for the hospitality, and if they come back to NZ, I reckon they deserve to get as much kindness as we can give them.

I hope you guys who are going next year have a great time, although seeing as I'm not there, the weather might not be so good.....

Think Paul Dobbs won a race at the Steam packet races on the Southern 100 course on Sat , didn't get a chance to speak to him this year as had no pit crewing to do after Barry came off.... got some pics of him on 675 Triumph, will dig them out and post up.... eventually

we stayed at the Barregarroo campsite; top spot, run by a sooooo laid back couple, and made some great friends there!
(ie-ended up staying with a dutch mate who invited us over for Assen TT, and later on in the year went up to stay with a geordie family we met....)

we've booked at the campsite too, apparently they were already turning people away! this was back in Feb!!

Ian Hutchinson was disqualified from the SuperSport race, given a technical infringement had occurred.
This is an open letter from his engine builder:

TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN

I am the engine tuner who tuned Ian Hutchinson’s engine for the 2006 Supersport TT. He finished in second place to John McGuinness, but was later disqualified.

I have been tuning motorcycle engines for 30 years now, very successfully, my engines have achieved 66 podium finishes (including 22 wins) at the TT alone and I am sure you will understand that I would not put my reputation at risk by building illegal engines for anyone.

The reason for the disqualification was the exhaust camshaft lift was slightly over the maximum permissible lift, which I am not happy about.

I had this camshaft reprofiled in good faith but unfortunately it was found to be out of tolerance. If the difference in camshaft lift was 0.5mm or more than standard, I could understand the decision as this could have given a very slight increase in performance, but the actual increase due to the regrinding process was 0.2mm (measured extremely accurately and independently by a very reputable camshaft manufacturer).
If you deduct the maker’s tolerance (plus or minus 0.1mm) it means the actual error is only 0.1mm, this is the thickness of a human hair (0.1mm).

I have been involved with all types of racing engines over the years and the acceptable tolerance on camshaft lift throughout the industry is plus or minus 0.2mm, it is unreasonable to expect us to work to less tolerance than this and is completely unnecessary.

I cannot see any logic in this.

I attended a short meeting with Ian after the engine was stripped and the Technical Officials (Scrutineers) all agreed that this tiny discrepancy would not in any way whatsoever have given the rider a power advantage.

I asked the Technical Officials to look at this case sympathetically as it was a genuine technical error and I really feel they could have been more lenient and let this go, but Ian was still in my opinion cruelly disqualified.

I have spoken to many; many people involved at the TT and have not found a single person who agrees with the decision.

John McGuinness, who won the race from Hutchy agreed the ruling was extremely harsh.

As far as I am concerned, he still finished second. Races are won or lost on the track and not in the Scrutineering Bay.

These people are doing themselves no favours by being so petty and I do not know how they could do this to a rider with so much talent, after riding so brilliantly.

I honestly think in a case like this, bearing in mind the tiny discrepancy common sense should surely prevail.

In my opinion I think the engine rules for the Supersport class (at the TT) are unsafe and need to be completely reviewed. However this is a separate issue, but I am available to discuss further at length on this matter with the appropriate people.

Ian was a sensation at the TT with his superb performances and the TT needs young riders like Ian to keep it alive, but unnecessary aggravation like this can not do the future of the TT any good at all.

Ian was understandably distraught at the decision and was not going to compete in the Senior race on Friday, however after he had time to reflect, he decided to go ahead. I put in a new gearbox on Thursday afternoon, as he had had a problem with second gear in Saturday’s Superbike Race.

He was only 0.6 of a second behind John McGuinness on the first lap, and then retired at Milntown due to a simple electrical fault.

There is one thing for sure, regardless of the above aggravation, he has marked his authority at the TT and is looking forward to 2007!

I think all the fans, all riders and all who have been involved in this year’s TT will agrees it was a huge success, the best for years and feel how the TT really has got a future, but as far as I am (and I am sure many, many others) concerned this unnecessary petty aggravation has just put a damper on it.

I would like readers and riders views on this, if this is possible?
