Heres another one of my fav's... I love the attitude and humour in the lyrics... sorry if it's offensive to some:

Leary Dennis - I'm An Asshole

Folks, I’d like to sing a song about the American Dream
    About me, about you
About the way our American hearts beat way down in the bottom of our chests
About that special feeling we get in the cockles of our hearts
    Maybe below the cockles,
Maybe in the sub cockle area,
Maybe in the liver, maybe in the kidneys,
Maybe even in the colon, we don’t know

I’m just a regular Joe, with a regular job
I’m your average white, suburbanite slop
I like football and porno and books about war
I got an average house, with a nice hardwood floor
My wife and my job, my kids and my car
My feet on my table, and a Cuban cigar

But sometimes that just ain’t enough to keep a man like me interested
(oh no, no way, uh uh)
No I gotta go out and have fun at someone else’s expense
(woah yeah, yeah yeah, yeah yeah yeah)
I drive really slow in the ultra fast lane
While people behind me are going insane

I’m an asshole (he’s an asshole)
I’m an asshole (he’s an asshole, such an asshole)

I use public toilets and I piss on the seat
I walk around in the summer time saying “how about this heat”

I’m an asshole (he’s an asshole)
I’m an asshole (he’s the world’s biggest asshole)

Sometimes I park in the handicap spaces
While handicapped people make handicap faces

I’m an asshole (he’s an asshole)
I’m an asshole (he’s a real fucking asshole)

Maybe I shouldn’t be singing this song
Ranting and raving and carrying on
Maybe they’re right when they tell me I’m wrong
    Nah

I’m an asshole (he’s an asshole)
I’m an asshole (he’s the world’s biggest asshole)

You know what I’m gonna do
I’m gonna get myself a 1967 Cadillac Eldora do convertible
Hot pink, with whale skin hubcaps
    And all leather cow interior
And make brown baby seal lions for head lights (yeah)
And I’m gonna drive in that baby at 115 miles per hour
    Gettin' 1 mile per gallon,
Sucking down Quarter Pounder cheeseburgers from McDonald’s
In the old fashioned non-biodegradable styrofoam containers
And when I’m done sucking down those greeseball burgers
I’m gonna wipe my mouth with the American flag
And then I’m gonna toss the styrofoam containers right out the side
And there ain’t a goddamn thing anybody can do about it
You know why, because we’ve got the bombs, that’s why
2 words, nuclear fuckin’ weapons, OK?
Russia, Germany, Romania, they can have all the democracy they want
They can have a big democracy cakewalk
Right through the middle of Tinian Square and it won’t make a lick of difference
Because we’ve got the bombs, OK?
John Wayne’ not dead, he’s frozen, and as soon as we find a cure for cancer
We’re gonna thaw out the duke and he’s gonna be pretty pissed off
    You know why,
Have you ever taken a cold shower, well multiply that by 50 million times
That’s how pissed off the duke’s gonna be

I’m an asshole (he’s an asshole)
I’m an asshole (he’s the world’s biggest asshole)

    A-S-S-H-O-L-E
    Everybody
    A-S-S-H-O-L-E

I’m an asshole and I’m proud of it

Love that one PF, it's SO un-PC!
In the US last year and there were some great light-hearted C&W type songs like "Billys got his beer-goggles on" and "Redneck girls" both also a bit un-PC, love that kinda shit, no real 'message' and not too heavy.

Not my favourite, but since we're all being dirty potty-mouths, this one's still a corker:

Rage against the machine - Killing in the name.

    (outro)

Fuck you, I won't do what you tell me
Fuck you, I won't do what you tell me
Fuck you, I won't do what you tell me
Fuck you, I won't do what you tell me
Fuck you, I won't do what you tell me
Fuck you, I won't do what you tell me
Fuck you, I won't do what you tell me
Fuck you, I won't do what you tell me
Fuck you, I won't do what you tell me!
Fuck you, I won't do what you tell me!
Fuck you, I won't do what you tell me!
Fuck you, I won't do what you tell me!
Fuck you, I won't do what you tell me!
Fuck you, I won't do what you tell me!
Fuck you, I won't do what you tell me!
Fuck you, I won't do what you tell me!
    Motherfucker!

    Well everyone loves Dirty Dancing!

Now I've had the time of my life
No I never felt like this before
Yes I swear it's the truth
And I owe it all to you
'Cause I've had the time of my life
And I owe it all to you

I've been waiting for so long
    Now I've finally found someone
    To stand by me
We saw the writing on the wall
    As we felt this magical
    Fantasy

Now with passion in our eyes
There's no way we could disguise it
    Secretly
So we take each other's hand
    'Cause we seem to understand
    The urgency
    Just remember

    You're the one thing
    I can't get enough of
    So I'll tell you something
    This could be love because

I've had the time of my life
No I never felt this way before
Yes I swear it's the truth
And I owe it all to you

    Hey, baby

    With my body and soul
I want you more than you'll ever know
So we'll just let it go
Don't be afraid to lose control, no
Yes I know what's on your mind
When you say, "Stay with me tonight"
    Just remember

    You're the one thing
    I can't get enough of
    So I'll tell you something
    This could be love because

I've had the time of my life
No I never felt this way before
Yes I swear it's the truth
And I owe it all to you

But I've had the time of my life
And I've searched though every open door
    Till I found the truth
And I owe it all to you

    [SOLO]

Now I've had the time of my life
No I never felt this way before
Yes I swear it's the truth
And I owe it all to you

I've had the time of my life
No I never felt this way before
Yes I swear it's the truth
And I owe it all to you

'Couse I've had the time of my life
And I've searched though every open door
    Till I found the truth
And I owe it all to you...

    Cool

Saw an interesting band on friday night called the "Fuchronauts" ...

can't remember (couldn't understand) much of the lyrics but some of the songs they played were :

Bro, giz a hoon on your missus
    Step into my Orifice
Things that don't belong in your arse
    and something like ....
Clint Brown bashed and bummed in Taupo

Hmmm, I guess song-writers school was not a success for THIS lyric-writer, it really tells a tale and sends a message eh?

Actually, Zack de la Rocha ("that lyric writer") does send a message in almost all of their songs. He was a very political writer and most of Rage Against The Machine's songs were politically committed, left wing music. Some of the language is a bit profound at times, but the guy knew how to write a song.

They were also given a lot of shit for their songs and political views. Slogans such as "Anger is a right", stage backdrops as the US flag upside down and back to front, and black flags with a clenched fist brought them all sorts of controversy.

Such quotes as "Our electoral freedoms in this country are over as long as they're controlled by corporations" and "We built this city, and we can tear it down if they don't give us what we want" came out Zack's mouth first, and they did revolutionise the era and the young people of the day (mid 90's.)

Or an alternative history.....a tiresome shouty bloke whose rent-a-lefty politics ruined the chance of an otherwise quite proficent rock band selling as many records as they might have....

They wouldn't have been a band and wouldn't have sold ANY records without Zack. Personally, RATM were a fucking great band, and wouldn't have been anything without Zack.

To me they're a perfect CD band, you can listen to Killing in the Name and Bombtrack and skip the rest...

Politics done well, was New Model Army..

Our star-spangled Union Jack flutters so proud
Over the dancing heads of the merry patriotic crowd
Tip your hat to the Yankee conqueror
We've got no reds under the bed with guns under our pillows

We're the 51st state of America

Here in the land of opportunity, watch us revel in our liberty
You can say what you like but it doesn't change anything
Because the corridors of power are an ocean away

We're the 51st state of America

Change the last bit to (mid 60's) and you could apply the above to a raft of groups from my youth too - it's all just the same shit rehashed to suit the moment. (did ya like the pun 'suit'?)

    Another Macc Lads "gem"...

Cleaned my teeth, put on my best clobber,
Tonight's the night I'm going to knob her
    Vauxhall Viva's covered in rust,
But you can't shag a bird on a 29 bus

Beer and sex and chips and gravy, its all a Macc Lad wants
Beer and sex and chips and gravy, and a tasty bit of clump
Get up off the floor, finish your chips, we're going to sup some more

Pulled the bird down the Fox & Grapes
Game of darts and a lot of beer
'Can you hold your liquor (licker) love?'
'Yes I can, always by the ears.'

    Treat your women like toilets
They're happy when you're abusing them
But toilets don't follow you round when you've finished using them

    One of these two:

    Skrewdriver - Stand Proud

    I get a feeling, despite the double-dealing
Someone's trying to grind us down
Despite the storm breaking, people are awakening
    We're always gonna be around

Shout out loud "We're strong and proud"
No one's gonna kill our voice
No treacherous scum gonna have us on the run
Trying to murder freedom of choice

    (chorus)
If we stand proud, and get knocked down
Well that's the way it's got to be
If we die trying, well I prefer dying
    To living on my knees.

Will it be a Red day? Not if I have my way
You can shove their stinkin' two-faced lies
If they get their say, there'll only be bad days
Stand and watch as freedom dies

    (chorus)

    (guitar solo)

    (chorus)

Don't give up the fight for what is good and right
We've got to keep the vultures at bay
I'm living for the times that they pay for their crimes
When we're sweeping all the rubbish away.

    (chorus)

    (chorus)
Blood For Blood - Wasted Youth Crew (My Kind Belong Nowhere)

    (chorus)
Fuck you, fuck you, fuck you and fuck society to.
Fuck you, fuck you, fuck you and fuck the world because,
My kind, my kind, my kind belong nowhere,
My kind, my kind, my kind are hated and feared

We all started as someone with a chance to make our way
Sometimes the world was cold but we waited for the better days
We watched the years go by and nothing seemed to change
We waited, hoped and prayed as the hard times felt like stinging rain
Well now that hope is gone, somewhere it turned to rage
Hatred, violence, booze and crime, sometimes it seemed the only way (to get by)
I always knew I'd never make it cause I'm twisted in the brain
But I swear to you all right now that I'll never live like the ones that made me hate

    (chorus)

I know I'm going nowhere and I been on a losin' streak
and a scumbag, zero and anti-hero are all you think of me (and you're right)
I know I'm going nowhere and I been on a losin streak
and lowlife, loser and dead-end cruiser are all you think of me (but I say)

    (chorus)

Fuck you, fuck you, fuck you and fuck mankind
My kind, my kind, my kind are hated and feared
Wasted youth, I never had all the chances
Wasted youth, I never had no savin' grace
Wasted youth, yeah I've made a few mistakes
Wasted youth, but how long will I have to pay?

So, some of you were born into happiness and wealth
While some of us were born to a life of hell
And some of us were lost and some of us were found
but most of us were beaten by life to the ground
And maybe I'll never see the day that I win
But I'll always have time for a beer with my friends
We'll fight everybody and the world 'till the end
and if you fuck around with us you'll get your head kicked in!

    (chorus)

    (chorus)

    Slayer - New Faith

Holy man open up your eyes
To the ways of the world you've been so blind
As the walls of religion come crashing down
How's the ignorance taste the second time around

Tell me how it feels knowing chaos will never end
Tell me what it's like when the celebration begins

Welcome to the horror of the revelation
Tell me what you think of your savior now
I reject all the biblical views of the truth
Dismiss it as the folklore of the times
I won't be force fed prophecies
From a book of untruths for the weakest mind
Join the new faith for the celebration
Cult of new faith fuels the devastation

Holy man come and worship me
I am all that you ever wanted to be
I'm the life of indulgence you never knew
The epitome of evil shining through.......
