I love the dead before they're cold,
Their blueing flesh for me to hold.
Cadaver eyes upon me see nothing.
I love the dead before they rise,
    No farewells, no goodbyes.
I never even knew your now-rotting face.
While friends and lovers mourn your silly grave.
I have other uses for you, Darling.

    I love the dead,
    I love the dead,
    I love the dead so.
    I love the dead,
    I love the dead,
    I love the dead.
    I love the dead,
    I love the dead,
    I love the dead.
    I love the dead,
    I love the dead,
    I love the dead.
    I love the dead,
    I love the dead,
    I love the dead.

    I, I love the dead,
    I, I love the dead,
    I, I love the dead.

I love the dead before they're cold,
Their blueing flesh for me to hold.
Cadaver eyes upon me see nothing

    Two of my current favorites.

    Zero Down
    No Apologies

Lately I've been too tired to be that man I used to be.
Overwhelmed and uninspired does it matter that no one's listening.
I've looked to find my place, I've searched to see my purpose served but every where that I can see people getting what they don't deserve.
Cause I am what I am, I could change it all but never me.
It's the pride of a foolish man but I live my life with no apologies.
Convince the world I'm crazy, in truth maybe I am.
But I've cut my baggage loose I shed my skin I'm a better man.
No one left to pull me under no one left to drag me down.
Standing on my own two feet I find the strength to stand my ground.
I once dwelled on all the things in life I never had,
I obsessed on my injustices until it drove me mad,
and all that hatred that I felt I didn't understand.
Was everything that held me down and kept me a bitter man.

    Bigwig
    Dent

    Lack of motivation,
    Every day and every night,
    Disconnecting my dedication,
Is this what's left to me?

    I'm sacrificing to be stronger,
But now years go by much faster,
    And every minute's getting longer,
    It's not my time,
And now I feel so helpless.

    It seems to me,
    Far out of reach,
But now I'll make my dent.

    Something keeps igniting,
This short-lived tire that's bound to stop.

    Strangulating and suffocating,
    Important feelings in my life,
I don't want to be immortal.

    I know I couldn't change the world,
    Do what I can,
    I'm gonna give it all,
And try to make a dent in this wall.

It seems to me so far out of reach,
But I know I'll make my dent.
But now I feel so helpless.

awesome stuff! hehehe the two versions do sound rather different. NIN version is dark and deppressing the Cash version is almost tear enducing ...but not quite tehe. meh. i like the lyrics more so than the actual song

so what would be your choice for favourite song lyrics?

at the moment i'm loving one of my old favourites... An epic song, and some pretty cool lyrics too...

Meatloaf - "Paradise by the Dashboard Light"

    I. Paradise

    Boy:
    I remember every little thing
As if it happened only yesterday
    Parking by the lake
And there was not another car in sight
And I never had a girl
Looking any better than you did
And all the kids at school
They were wishing they were me that night

And now our bodies are oh so close and tight
It never felt so good, it never felt so right
And we're glowing like the metal on the edge of a knife
    C'mon! Hold on tight!
    C'mon! Hold on tight!

Though it's cold and lonely in the deep dark night
I can see paradise by the dashboard light

    Girl:
    Ain't no doubt about it
    We were doubly blessed
    Cause we were barely seventeen
    And we were barely dressed

    Ain't no doubt about it
Baby got to go and shout it
    Ain't no doubt about it
    We were doubly blessed

    Boy:
    Cause we were barely seventeen
    And we were barely dressed

    Baby doncha hear my heart
You got it drowning out the radio
    I've been waiting so long
For you to come along and have some fun

And I gotta let ya know
No you're never gonna regret it
So open up your eyes I got a big surprise
    It'll feel all right
Well I wanna make your motor run

And now our bodies are oh so close and tight
It never felt so good, it never felt so right
And we're glowing like the metal on the edge of a knife
    C'mon! Hold on tight!
    C'mon! Hold on tight!

Though it's cold and lonley in the deep dark night
I can see paradise by the dashboard light
    Paradise by the dashboard light

You got to do what you can
And let Mother Nature do the rest
    Ain't no doubt about it
    We were doubly blessed
    Cause we were barely seventeen
    And we were barely--

We're gonna go all the way tonight
We're gonna go allt he way
    An tonight's the night...

    Radio Broadcast:
Ok, here we go, we got a real pressure cooker
going here, two down, nobody on, no score,
bottom of the ninth, there's the wind-up and
there it is, a line shot up the middle, look
at him go. This boy can really fly!
He's rounding first and really turning it on
now, he's not letting up at all, he's gonna
try for second; the ball is bobbled out in center,
and here comes the throw, and what a throw!
He's gonna slide in head first, here he comes, he's out!
No, wait, safe--safe at second base, this kid really
    makes things happen out there.
Batter steps up to the plate, here's the pitch--
he's going, and what a jump he's got, he's trying
for third, here's the throw, it's in the dirt--
safe at third! Holy cow, stolen base!
He's taking a pretty big lead out there, almost
daring him to try and pick him off. The pitcher
glance over, winds up, and it's bunted, bunted
down the third base line, the suicide squeeze in on!
Here he comes, squeeze play, it's gonna be close,
here's the throw, there's the play at the plate,
holy cow, I think he's gonna make it!

II. Let Me Sleep On It

    Girl:
    Stop right there!
    I gotta know right now!
    Before we go any further--!

    Do you love me?
    Will you love me forever?
    Do you need me?
    Will you never leave me?
Will you make me so happy for the rest of my life?
Will you take me away and will you make me your wife?
    Do you love me!?
    Will you love me forever!?
    Do you need me!?
    Will you never leave me!?
Will you make me so happy for the rest of my life!?
Will you take me away and will you make me your wife!?
    I gotta know right now
    Before we go any further
    Do you love me!!!?
    Will you love me forever!!!?

    Boy:
    Let me sleep on it
Baby, baby let me sleep on it
    Let me sleep on it
And I'll give you my answer in the morning

    Let me sleep on it
Baby, baby let me sleep on it
    Let me sleep on it
And I'll give you my answer in the morning

    Let me sleep on it
Baby, baby let me sleep on it
    Let me sleep on it
And I'll give you my answer in the morning

    Girl:
    I gotta know right now!
    Do you love me?
    Will you love me forever?
    Do you need me?
    Will you never leave me?
Will you make me so happy for the rest of my life?
Will you take me away and will you make me your wife?
    I gotta know right now!
    Before we go any further
    Do you love me?
And will you love me forever?

    Boy:
    Let me sleep on it
Baby, baby let me sleep on it
    Let me sleep on it
And I'll give you my answer in the morning
    Let me sleep on it!!!

    Girl:
    Will you love me forever?

    Boy:
    Let me sleep on it!!!

    Girl:
    Will you love me forever!!!

III. Praying for the End of Time

    Boy:
I couldn't take it any longer
    Lord I was crazed
And when the feeling came upon me
    Like a tidal wave
I started swearing to my god and on my mother's grave
That I would love you to the end of time
I swore that I would love you to the end of time!

So now I'm praying for the end of time
    To hurry up and arrive
Cause if I gotta spend another minute with you
I don't think that I can really survive
I'll never break my promise or forget my vow
But God only knows what I can do right now
I'm praying for the end of time
It's all that I can do
Praying for the end of time, so I can end my time with you!!!

    Boy:
It was long ago and it was far away
and it was so much better than it is today

    Girl:
    It never felt so good
    It never felt so right
    And we were glowing like
A metal on the edge of a knife
    IT'S PEANUT BUTTER JELLY TIME!!!
Do the peanut butter jelly, peanut butter jelly, peanut butter jelly with a baseball bat!

If you asked me to - Patti LaBelle

Used to be that I believed in something
Used to be that I believed in love
Its been a long time since Ive had that feeling
    I could love someone
    I could trust someone
I said Id never let nobody near my heart again darlin
I said Id never let nobody in

But if you asked me to
I just might change my mind
And let you in my life forever
    If you asked me to
I just might give my heart
And stay here in your arms forever
    If you asked me to
    If you asked me to

Somehow ever since Ive been around you
Cant go back to being on my own
Cant help feeling darling since Ive found you
    That Ive found my home
    That Im finally home
I said Id never let nobody get too close to me darling
I said I needed, needed to be free

(but if you asked me to...)

Asked me to, I will give my world to you baby
    I need you now
Ask me to and Ill do anything for you baby, for you baby

    If you asked me to
Id let you in my life forever
    If you asked me to...

From the 2nd stanza of Lou Reed's Street hassle

    Street Hassle
    Hey, that cunt's not breathing
I think she's had too much
of something or other, hey, man, you know what I mean?
I don't mean to scare you
but you're the one who came here
and you're the one who's gotta take her when you leave
    I'm not being smart
or trying to be cold on my part
and I'm not gonna wear my heart on my sleeve
But you know people get all emotional
and sometimes, man, they just don't act rational you know,
they think they're just on TV
    Sha-la-la-la, man
why don't you just slip her away
You know, I'm glad that we met man
    it really was nice talking
and I really wish that there was a little more time to speak
But you know it could be a hassle
trying to explain this all to a police officer
about how it was that your old lady got herself stiffed
And it's not like we could help
but there wasn't nothing no one could do
and if there was, man, you know I would have been the first
But when someone turns that blue
    well, it's a universal truth
and then you just know that bitch will never fuck again
By the way, that's really some bad shit
that you came to our place with
but you ought to be more careful around the little girls
It's either the best or it's the worst
and since I don't have to choose
I guess I won't and I know this ain't no way to treat a guest
But why don't you grab your old lady by the feet
and just lay her out in the darkest street
and by morning, she's just another hit and run.
You know, some people got no choice
and they can never find a voice
to talk with that they can even call their own
So the first thing that they see
that allows them the right to be
why they follow it, you know, it's called bad luck.

for the past week or so, yeah. But i'm like that... discover (or re-discover) a few songs that really capture me at that point in time for some reason... listen to them heaps... then i find some more...
I'm also currently captivated by Dropkick Murphy's - "Shipping up to Boston", because i heard a bit of that song in the movie "The Departed" the other week, and it stuck in my head That irish/folk rock/punk fusion grips me every time i hear a good example
