    'Für Elise' - Beethoven
    'Morning' - Greig
'Theme from 9th Symphony' - Beethoven.
'Wish you were here' - Pink Floyd

None of them particularly well - but working on it.

Popular misconception that Beethoven was all stern and grand pianos. He said 'The guitar is a minature orchestra in itself.'
    He be jammin' mon.

    'Mouth for War' - Pantera
    'Spoon' - Dave Matthews Band
'Wanted - Mince and Cheese Pies' - Cowpoos
Some song by India Arie (sp)
    'Hummer' - Smashing Pumpkins

To be honest there is so much shit churned out these days that I struggle to find much inspiration to play the guitar anymore, prefer to take my anger out on the drums.

Over all the shredding and wank guitar, it's for geeks and smallcox. Prefer something with a bit of soul these days and a well played acoustic guitar is great to listen to.

    Badly. I'm currently playing badly.

Oh - sorry; I guess you meant what stuff am I playing.
Um... a whole bunch of Crowded House, some fingerstyle piece by Richard Marx (can't stand his music, but it's a nice acoustic bit), a bit of Collective Soul, and a couple of classical pieces I can't remember the names of.

To be honest, this morning was the first time I've played in a while; the droooogs I'm on make me disinterested in listening to music, let alone playing it. And the last coupla times I've picked up the acoustic, one of my sons has gone, "Oh - kewl - guitaring!" and plugged in their gat, turned up the effects, and drowned my out with some Metal Licker or Zep or somesuch, so I've had to give up.
Yeah, I could just play with CrazyPete or TheDave, but the only tune we can play together is "Californication".
    ... and that's what I think.

    Or summat.

    Or maybe not...

    Dunno really....

Hmmm. Good track. Interesting point (for me anyway). James Iha played a 1988 Gibson Les Paul on this track, which is EXACTLY the same guitar as my main one.

Right. You've hit on something I know.

In 1977, Gibson introduced the serialization method that is in practice today. This updated system utilizes an impressed eight digit numbering scheme that covers both serializing and dating functions. The pattern is as follows:
    YDDDYPPP
    YY is the production year
DDD is the day of the year
PPP is the plant designation and/or instrument rank.
Since 1989, acoustic guitars built at our Bozeman, Montana facility are ranked from 001-499. Electric Guitars built at the Gibson USA plant in Nashville are ranked from 500-999. Prior to 1984, the numbers 001-499 show Kalamazoo production, 500-999 show Nashville production. The serial numbers from the Custom, Art, and Historic division vary depending on the line. The historic reissue guitars feature historically accurate serial numbers.
Examples: 70108276 means the instrument was produced on Jan. 10, 1978, in Kalamazoo and was the 276th instrument stamped that day.
82765501 means the instrument was produced on Oct. 3, 1985, in Nashville and was the 1st instrument stamped that day.

Mine is the 54th Gibson guitar to come out of Nashville, Tenessee on 28th January 1988.
And I to my motorcycle parked like the soul of the junkyard. Restored, a bicycle fleshed with power, and tore off. Up Highway 106 continually drunk on the wind in my mouth. Wringing the handlebar for speed, wild to be wreckage forever.

So what's the rest of your setup Dover?

    I have a 1985 JCM800 series 1987 Marshall (basically a slightly modified JTM45), 1960A & B cabinets, and Boss GT3 effects unit.

I used to use a Crybaby Wah and brown-toned TS-9 tubescreamer (read an oild Eddie Van Halen interview if you don't know what the brown tone is) and a few other pedals, but the GT-3 can simulate all of that.

hmm, I'll need to look at the numbers on my headstock I guess.

It's an early nineties model AFAIK.

Used to have a JCM900 100watt head and 1960A cabinet when I was gigging in the UK but sold it to come over here. Now I've got a shit little 15w Marshall practive amp that sounds like crap.

Dunlop Crybaby, the model with 4 different tone settings and that's about it really. Never was an effects man, had a Zoom 2020 back in the day but it died a horrible death in a puddle of Tennents lager circa 1996.

Got numerous other guitars, couple of squier strats one korean made and one jap, a Tanglewood Ovation rip-off, a Martin D1 (I think, old dreadnought) in the uk, a 335 copy, a home made job sporting a solid ash body with custom wound pick up and ibanez low pro edge floyd rose and schoeller machine heads.

Sold the bass (needed a bass player for my band so my mate bought it and I taught him. He's fucking phenomenal now)

Premier Artist Maple, uk made, fusion kit with Sabian cymbals.

Yes thank you for that great addition to the thread. Shred is great if played properly Some nutter going up and down the fretboard at 20 notes a minute isn't my cup of tea either, but you can't go wrong with a minute long burst of pure talent.

If you havn't heard A Fair Judgement, then I suggest you do. It's got more soul than half the stuff you listed.

Well, the 'study break' has just started for me, so that obviously means woodshedding for 8 hours a day, getting my chops back up to scratch.

    The current projects:

Jason Becker - Altitudes: The perrenial chops-busting skill-testing masterpiece that I'm constantly trying to perfect. Someday.
Yngwie Malmsteen - Far Beyond The Sun: Mostly beyond me, but I'm getting there. Malmsteen-shred is harder than most other guitarists more linear scale-y offerings.....
Nightwish - She Is My Sin: Finishing touches. Sounds KILLER.
Pantera - Floods: Got a perfect tone for the outro, got most of the solo nicely.
Currently transcribing Bach/Vanessa-Mae's Bach Street Prelude.

riffer: nickeh says you're a wizzard, I have to hear you sometime!

These guys arent shredders, they are consumate musicians. End of story.
