Bus, train, taxi, plane, car, ferry AND bike ride... all in two days!

Well... after one day's planning of trying to figure out the cheapest, fastest, safest and most importantly... funnest way of getting a bike from Blenheim to Taupo my family and I decided it'd be best if I traveled down and got the bike myself! YOS!

So this is a very rough after ride report as I'm SO tired I'll try get on here tomorrow and fix up any English/spelling mistakes so till them please bear with me!

I found a bike that I really liked on the net, rung the people and it sounded really good! So... as it was night I couldn't really do much about it. Woke up the next day stoked and straight away got into ringing round trucking companies etc. We found out that it would only be about $30 more expensive for me to travel down and pick the bike up... we started booking all the tickets for all the mechanical things I'd need to get on to get down there

Didn't sleep that night, although I did try too! Got on the bus at 1AM... talked to an awesome chick who has always wanted to do biking but has never been able to get her own road bike got about 2 hours sleep on the bus. I didn't actually ride a train but the bus passed one with 43 carriages!!

Then from Wellington I caught a taxi to the airport and then a plane to Picton. The guy who was selling the bike ( a mechanic) was away on holiday so his boss picked me up from the airport and took me to the bike in Blenheim. After a bit of delay there I left Blenheim at the time I should of been at the port ready to load the bike onto the ferry!! D'oh!

So I geared up quicker then I ever have before, shot round to the petrol station to fill up before I left and what do ya know.... I forgot to ask what fuel it took!! *slaps fore head* I was sure it took 91 but I wanted to do things properly, so I ran back to the shop (yes, in all gear at midday on a frikkin hot day!) which was thankfully only a few shops over. It does take 91, so away I go again running back to the bike lookin like a complete twit going for a jog in bike gear

I try ride as quickly yet safely as possible on a new bike, in heavy traffic on new roads... JUST making it to the ferry in time, tired as anything and I had to try get my gear off and strap my bike down all in the few mins I had before the ferry left. Some other bikers that were there helped me to strap the bike down (if it was you, thank you SOO much!).

Settled in for the ferry ride across and thankfully I managed to get about half an hours sleep.

Had a good chat with a biker before I left and he warned me not to go over the Taka's on my way home (once again, thanks!)

Got off the ferry and saw Str8_jacket waiting for me... lookin good on the FZR ... to escort me back to her place (Thanks for the bed and laughs!)

Pic two: Bikey (needs a name) on the ferry
Pic three: I see that camera AJ! Hehe
Pic four: Colapop and AJ gettin a bit too comfy on Str8's bed!!
Will type the events of that night and the ride back to Taupo in the next post, whenever that gets posted

If you've read this far, who've done better then me!

Wow! My typing wasn't too bad last night

    Any hoo...

Big thanks to Mr Melon for cookin the BBQ, Str8 for blowing up my bed, Colapop for cracking my back into place with your bear hug and every one else that was there who made it a great night

I actually can't remember much of that night though! I was so incredibly tired, by then I had about 3 hours sleep in two very full on, stress full and fun days. It was really cool to meet some of the Wellington KB'ers. You might see me down that way again some time soon!

We arranged with AJTurbo (Andy) and his son mud boy (Luke) to come round in the morning at 9AM to escort me part of the way home. After a great nights sleep my alarm went off just after 8am... I was too tired so set it for another 20 mins or so and what do ya know! There is a knocking at the door... They're early! I'm still in the sleeping bag I crawl out and have a shower, re pack the bag blah blah blah lol. Then played Halo with Luke for a lil while, good ol' Xbox

After Mr Melon had turned my bike around on the spot (very nifty trick that one!) and ridden it up the creepishly steep drive way for me, we were away headin home. Stopped to gas up and Andy rings RG100 (Glen) to see if he can bring his glasses he left at the last race to a meeting point.

We got to the meeting point and find out that Glen is gunna join us for part of the ride At this stage the back pack was already starting to feel heavy... So I went into the petrol station, bought some glad wrap and tied my pack onto the bike (see pic). It was so weird wrapping it round and round the tail end (Thanks to Glen for helping me out with this... Thanks Luke and Andy for your uh... support? )

After that's done we headed off to Foxton to have a stop/breakfast. It was a really cool Cafe'! The car park was tarseal with gravel over the top, as soon as I saw it my heart started beating faster as usually on the GSX that would mean disaster (slippery gravel + tall bike = drop) drove onto it and was soo happy when I could easilly- ish enough move the bike around on it (I can flat foot the ZXR!). Then I was worried I might stall in front of the guys thankfully I didn't!

After an awesome break fast (see next post of pics) we headed off again and from then on it was pretty un eventful. Glen, Andy and Luke waved me off at the Palmy turn off and I carried on my merry way towards Taupo... most of the way seeing dark clouds in my mirrors and blue skies ahead

I got to waiouro, looked at my brake lever and the screw holding the lever on was sticking out about 2 1/2cm's!! It could of just bounced out... leaving the lever to come out I used a 20 cent coin to tighten it back up and headed off again past the mountains going past alot of cops.

WARNING: If any one is going through the desert Rd they have put loose gravel ontop of the tar seal thats had all the tar/ oil come to the top to try and get some grip for the cars... not fun on a bike! Also, the road has heaps of pot holes, bumps and over all is really rough... nice views though

Any hoo... at some point my MP3 ran outta batteries but I got home safe and sound with a new bike and a long story

    Ever careful...
You must have buns of steel to do that on a ZXR. Way to go!

Sounds typical of most of NZ roads. They seem to be getting worse these days.

Any hoo... I got home safe and sound with a new bike and a long story
    Enjoy your new toy.
