    Bad News For Floyd Fans

Founding member Roger Keith "SYD" Barrett reportedly passed away on Friday due to complications for a diabetes related illness at the age of 60.

Founding the band along with fellow members; Richard Wright, Nick Mason, & Rodger Waters.

Syd left the band in 1968 after series of bizarre antics & other drug related issues. He wrote many of the bands original songs.
Songs like 'Shine on you crazy diamond' & 'Wish you were here' were written in dedication to Syd

He lived for 30yrs as a total recluse somewhere in england before illness got the better of him.

    That is sad news

That photo highlights his individuality, 3 men in black, Syd in orange.

Here is some more info on Syd for those who may be interested

Roger Keith Barrett was born in Glisson Road, Cambridge, to Winifred and Arthur Barrett, on January 6th, 1946. From an early age, he displayed a musical and artistic nature, and played the ukelele, banjo and piano - indeed, he won a prize for a piano duet at the tender age of seven. He then took up the guitar.

As he built on his guitar skills, his exploration of music in all its forms took him to the Riverside Jazz Club, where the drummer - one Sid Barrett - nicknamed the young Roger "Syd", a name which stuck.

With his growing prowess, he played in various bands in Cambridge and London - bands such as Geoff Mott and The Mottoes, Those Without, The Hollerin' Blues, The Spectrum Five, Leonard's Lodgers, and then, in 1965, The Pink Floyd were formed.

The Floyd toured extensively between 1965 - 1967, in a punishing schedule which saw them even play more than one country some evenings! The band's first album, Piper At The Gates Of Dawn, was also recorded during this period, as were Syd's contributions to the second album, A Saucerful Of Secrets.

He left the band at the start of 1968, and pursued a solo career. Two main albums came out of this very fragile period - The Madcap Laughs, and Barrett (both 1970). Other solo albums were to follow, taken from various sessions recorded between 1969 - 1971.

Roger Barrett retired from the public eye, choosing to live out the remainder of his life in his mother's house, even after her death in 1991. He contented himself with painting, and reportedly wrote a book about the history of art, for his own amusement (with no intention of publishing).

He will live on in the hearts of his friends, family, and his many fans across the world.

Cambridge- where I live now. Used to be a postie here, and we used to still get bags and bags of crazy fan mail for him, just addressed 'Syd Barrett, England'.

    Genius.

Hope he has gone to the place of endless madcap laughs.

You sure can pick them Gareth.

While it is a tragic shame that Syd has passed away from a music lovers point of view, I'd hate to have seen the things he reportedly saw

So who is Jethro Tull then? Just seeding a debate here.

And why are there still Pink Floyd fans?
If a man is alone in the woods and there isn't a woke Hollywood around to call him racist, is he still white?

they did another "living in the past" mmm because thats what Jethro Tull did & he in a roundabout type of way designed the first seed drill for agricultural use

salmon farming is aquaculture , I prefer to chase the wild ones

Tricky music from Tull, there were some wierd timings in their music.

Always liked the way Ian Anderson worked himself into the covers...Aqualung,and the comic strip of Ray in Too Old To Rock and Roll,Too Young To Die.On every album cover you'll see him.
