    Bike-to-bike radios

    Hey...

Bit of a random request, but does anyone in the Auckland area have a bike to bike radio type system that I could borrow this weekend?

Not sure how they work, but are they tied into the electrics of the bike or can they just run on batteries?

    Cheers muchly..

The only one I've seen that's battery powered is the Oxford unit. It didn't work too well over 100 km/h.

Hmm... looks like I might have to pickup some kit to buy at some point.

RRP on a pair of standard 2 way units?

Some of the small hand held units you can get in Cock Smiths will take a headset that allows handsfree communication.

Postie and I have Uniden CBs with headsets. That works quite well, but depends on your helmet, to how well they work. Mine hurt my ear after a while, and my crappy old lid meant anything above 80 was unheard. My new lid would be better.

But Postie broke his headset in his big off last year, and he's lost his radio somewhere. I still have mine tho, if you want to try it..

For a kit try mike pinfold in rotorua. He has a few kits that work reasonably well. I have a rider to pillion that does the trick (although you will need a longer cord to get to another bike )

I'd recommend a couple of cheap Uniden's . Budget for around $150 for a new pair and a little extra for some decent earphones.
