If they were here from the start of NZ maybe they'd have some claim to everything, but they were colonists just like the Europeans who followed them - and the Chinese who supposedly got here first!
Give me a break, every time I think I have heard it all, they turn around and lay claim to something else. Forests, seabed, foreshore - you name it, if there is a potential to make some money, suddenly it should be owned by Maori. Any wonder so many kiwis are heading to Australia?

Exactly. What these activists dont seem to understand is that if they copyright their culture, their culture will become even less relevant.
The likes of the Irish and Scottish culture has spread throughout the world. If people have to pay to use Maori icons (e.g. the Playstation Warrior example above) these icons will just not be used. Stupid Maori activists should be glad their culture is seen as interesting enough by the rest of the world to be used at all. They are just a small indigenous tribe at the ends of the earth and should celebrate the global interest they are experiencing at the moment
