2005 gn250...speedo/rev counter

do these light up at all? mine dont, and never have as far as i can tell.
ive found that riding in the evening as it starts to get dark, i cant see my speed if im on the open road.
im considering maybe mounting a pale LED to the handle bar, and wiring it so it goes on when i switch to full beam. would this be legal? simply so i know what my speed is, and also how many k's between fill ups.

The instruments do have bulbs inside for illumination. One in each dial. Your local motorcycle shop should be able to shed some light on it for you.

thanks for that....will get them to look at it next service.
for the time being i ride around town, so enough light from the street lights to do the trick.

it does...undo the two screws that hold the front face of the headlight on....and where the wires run to the front face (part with the glass and bulb of the headlight) check where the bunch of wires run to the headlight that the brown wire has it's connector plug hooked together..... a good way to check this before pulling it apart is if when you switch to parking light on it does not go thats a sure sign that wire is not connected.

it is very simple to fix if the parking light doesn't go though....

so yeah first check parking light if it goes get back to me and ill see if i can think of anything else... but knowing gn250 looms reasonably well....that wire will have a male to female round connecter in it join that up and your sorted either that or your switch could be faulty...

but as i say first check that yourself and will save you paying a mechanic on the chance it is something that simple.

and you should get at least 200km out of a tank....before reserve.....i got to coromandel town and back on mine once on less than a tank (from auckland taking coast road)

Can they keep up at motorway speeds in the dark? I know GN's aint that quick, but its got to be pretty hard to run that fast while shining a flash light on the dash. Or what about if they get Dover to do it on his pushbike?

mark...every other light thats meant to work, works. my dash lights up fully, bar the speedo and rev counters. i aint gonna risk stuffing up the ok things by fiddling, so will wait til the next service [bout 4000k away yet] so the race is on to put it on there asap! LOL.

what do you mean your dash lights up you mean gear position numbers and neutral light...if so they are seperate from the brown wire i speak of just make sure thats connected because that is what goes into the speedo and rev counter...... and nothing else on the "dash" ...... it will be something to do with that wire.....take just the front face of your headlight off....two screws....and see if that wire is connected.....

Until your next service get some duc tape and a dophin torch (or similar) and tape the torch very carefully but firmly to your lid, everytime you looking down the torch should beem light directly onto the area you are looking at, the helmet mounted torch lighting system does however have a rather strange effect with oncoming traffic, ignore the rude gestures as you will more than likely never see those people again.......good luck
