the south islanders are used to this ... so they are generally more prepared for no power .. and heating .. thats what fires are for..more people in aucks ... but seems the ppl down south have alot more to worry about with the snow storm and some having no power / heat over night
the no power situation in aucks .. is a force majure .. a major storm event .. no one can predict this
also with aucks exploding growth the network system had never been updated, happens every storm event. Problem is most of the ppl in aucks rely on power to run everything in the home... where as ppl down south just use it mostly for the basics

The real problem is the disproportionate number of espresso machines per square kilomtere in central Auckland. Just think about how much power it takes to froth up yer next latté. Entire South Island towns have been flooded in power projects just so Finn & Co. can have their daily frothy fix.
