Jesus its funny to watch these city folks cry cause they didnt have power.
To every man upon this earth
Death cometh sooner or late
And how can a man die better
Than facing fearful odds
For the ashes of his fathers
And the temples of his Gods

Plenty of power out in deepest Westieland!
My La Pavoni was still extracting beaut espresso, so I was able to proceed into the CBD caffeinated. Driving (In cage due to feral wind) was disturbingly easy with the traffic lights out! 'Twas good exercise getting up to the 16th floor of work...only to go and lurk at Motohaus when I was sent away an hour later. Butane powered soldering irons and the usual hand tools meant a few things were getting done there.
Apparently mobile espresso vans were doing a roaring trade in town![]()
And BTW, almost all of Auckland's power comes from the Huntly thermal plant...so as much as the southerners would like to cut the cable, it wouldn't do much to Orcland.(I understand the sentiment being a southerner myself...so sorry to shatter the myth!)
was there a power cut ????
further north than the northland crew
property prices?? oh my god what have those fuckers done to you

It's gone up by 30% in Palmy too, that makes about $500.00 capital gain.Originally Posted by Big Dave

Nice thought, but not quite correct. New Zealand's power supply is all interconnected by a grid system. Hamilton, Auckland and the far North use around a third, the rest of the North Island use a third, and the South Island is around a third. At present the peak demand is over 6000 MW, Huntly Otahuhu and Southdown supply almost 1500 MW, but that still leaves the northern region short by 500 MW.Originally Posted by Phurrball
Not only is the region short for its physical demand, but where does its reserve come from? For the least amount of security of supply there must be sufficient spinning reserve to cover the loss of any single unit. That means that the norther region needs 380 MW of spinning reserve. It can only get that amount by the addition of 380 MW of hydro plant, or another 1140 MW of traditional thermal plant. There isn't 380 MW of hydro river available up there, so the Northern region is short by at least 1640 MW from covering its own load.
Time to ride
