Beat you again, death! - Near misses.

Hmm I had an interesting last 6 days.

6.. that was a bad start as it is.

Last thursday night coming home from gym I clipped a camry while I was tired and not concentrating - just not looking in the right places and at the vehicle which happened to be stopped.
Remember don't look at the lights to decide where to go when someone has stopped infront of you and is sticking out into your lane. Indecision and tiredness. Lovely..!

Ended up bouncing off the poor bugger and kept the bike upright, mabey 40k or so impact. Bike is rideable just cosmetic.. LHS/top fairing in 3 bits etc - there goes the custom paint and the nice resale margin.
5cm to the left and i'd be through a rear windscreen or in hospital. Or a broken neck - who knows eh?

Yesterday, a truck took out 5 cars on the southern by Mt Wellington, the truck hit the barrier so hard it shattered and splashed bits of concrete FROM THE BARRIER onto incoming traffic on my side. Luckily I spent an extra minute back in classes or else I would have been in the thick of it and probably dead, got there just after it happened. Mabey 10 pieces bigger than a grapefruit scattered everywhere, and one or two nastier pieces, the biggest being 50cm long and weighing over 40kg. For some reason it was flung the furtherest.. in the far lane from the barrier.

    - The debris hit 3 cars on my side who stopped further up.

Lucky I wasn't there at that moment.

Then to crown it all off! This morning a 2 tonne chunk of urban assault vehicle (namely a pajero) directly infront of me decides it don't like its right rear tyre.. at 110~+ that is. First notice I get is a tiny piece of black something hitting the Ford Falcon next to me.. then all hell breaks loose.
The tyre fully delaminated at speed and ripped off the poor buggers bumper, and his side 'fairings' as such. I hit the anchors and frantically start dodging all sorts of flying rubber and plastic side skirts as he goes weaving off down the motorway trying to control it. Figured he would eventually roll but he kept it under control (props to him) and pulled off safely.

3 times lucky guys 'n gals? Mabey I shouldn't make the trip out tomorrow...

Have to take the motorway eh.. can't really do backroads for 32km and still get there on time without waking up an extra hour early... Oh well hopefully it's just a phase.

Is it just me or are there other pragmatic personalities who fail to see any relevance of these events to the personal safety of Mr. Tristan?
