Motorcycle cop loses helmet to thief

Bikers in Manteca, California are being warned by police to watch out for an opportunist thief riding a BMX bike that is stealing motorcycle helmets. Unfortunately, the first victim was… motorcycle officer Paul Carmona.

Carmona had parked near a restaurant, leaving his helmet with the bike. The BMX bandit rode up and stole the helmet, which includes earphones and a microphone that plugs into the police radio system.

Traffic officers will often be seen at a restaurant early in the morning “organizing the orders of their day and comparing notes” prior to going on the street.
