Here's a suggestion...
- Find something to import (www.ec21.com is a good place to start).
- Ring around,see if there's a market
- Start a business
- Sell stuff
- Pay yourself
- Get off the dole/benefit
- Employ others too
... or did I miss something?

Yep,be pro-active...do a course which are provided "free" by WINZ/Taxpayer to skill themselves up to be able to enter the work force easier and with confidence.Originally Posted by ManDownUnder
Agree with Sarge too re a C.V and pounding the pavements. The above helps that too.
A good start is for the unemployed to at least get up at 7am as if going to a job...routine is where it is at IMO
BTW...yes I am on a benefit(not unemployment),but not by choice.
Yes I do do the above with a degree of success too.

I had the fortunate experience of semi-purposefully being off work for about 8 months while living in London (ie 5 months off on purpose, 2-3 looking for specialised work). Luckily I had a very good paying job before hand, unfortunately not much money left at the end though.
From experience I can see how people get into a trap. My mind was mush, motivation in working was way low, self belief in being able to work was also low, desire to work was way way low, which all in turn affected interviews (as probably did the excess partying) so I didn't get any work. Easier to get up at the crack of noon, watch some Springer then go get pissed.
I gave myself a good kick up the arse though, and am cooking with gas.....
Ah bollox, rant and rave brings out the worst in me.
Being on a benefit is too attractive and easy for lots of kiwis. The benefit should be based on NEED. ie if you NEED food and shelter fine get a benefit and I'm very happy to help these people out. If you NEED food and shelter 'cause you spent a couple of nights in the boozer then get hungry and cold it serves you right.
I'm sick of hearing about unemployed getting gym memberships on their benefits (i personally know some one who has). What incentive to get out and work is that? And if you purchase booze or cigarettes then you can afford luxuries so give me my money back.
I was speaking to a some one from WINZ in a small town last weekend. A lady came in saying her 16 yr old daughter was leaving school and she was concerned and wanted to make sure she could get the benefit straight away. Which of course she could. What does this teach people?
I am still in bed ..well sorta ,,just had a look at the import site and decided the surface to air missile was the ticket , so have ordered a few ( click)
They are korean made , but some good stuff is made in Korea ... hope quality isnt an issue !
