What gun would this be? Don’t think its 50cal because as I understand it you can no longer shoot people with one. .vehicles and objects with people in them are fair game though.
I R rated it, no ones gets naked, but the are knackered !!! So be warned its live footage and does involve death. the news shows stuff like this all the time so figure its ok to post...

30mm chain gun on the nose of the apache. Thats jusdging by the sound. Could also be another 7.62 mini gun depending.
According to the Geneva convention you may not DIRECTLY shoot someone with a .50. If you were just shooting the vehicle they were in or in their area its a good grey spot. Although I do know someone back in SA who used a Barrett in the cops....... fun

That's a curious distiction. Correct me if I'm wrong but a .50 cal is 12.70mm right? So you can directy shoot someone with a 30mm projectile but not a 12.7mm one? Judging by the video the 30mm just rips a person to bits.Originally Posted by Sniper
I seem to recall from reading 'Black Hawk Down' and 'Sabre Squadron' that 0.50 cal weapons were used extensively and I don't remember reading any thing about the operators not shooting directly at people with them.
Another piece of trivia for you. The audio from this video was used by NZ band 'Subtract' in in the bridge of their song 'War' from the album 'Formula One'.

Im tired, but I'll try recall as much as I can. I spent so much of my life learning about reptiles and weaponry (Strange I know) but its been a while since I had to discuss it so please forgive me if I mix things up or am incorrect.Originally Posted by SlashWylde
Dont believe what you read in books...If you have read Bravo Two Zero, you would know what I mean.
If you were to follow the Geneva Convention rules to the letter, you would be back in the 1900's lining up on feilds and firing muskets at one another. Basically the convention was just held becasue of war camps, POW torture and all sorts of evil shit the the swiss didnt want. Shit, there is even a clause saying that if a battle shall cause harm to the enviroment for a period exceeding 5 months then the commanders shall be brought to trial.
Regarding the usage of .50 in Black Hawk down. They were getting shot to peices by fuckers that had no respect for their own or injured. You are not meant to shoot at vehicles who carry wounded or medics or anything with a medical symbol on the side. I would shoot at those bastard too.
I cant remember the exact terms, but I believe shooting someone with a round where it is more likely to kill painfully (Ie: .50 hitting you in the leg and you bleeding to death) than hit you and turn your body in to mush. Same reason you cannot use dum-dums or explosive rounds on infantry.....
I think I got it, but Im dog tired, apologese if I screwed up

EDIT: I stand corrected. I cant find any clause in the Geneva Convention on the usage of .50cal on personal. I got it mixed up with the usage of the types of rounds that can be used....

I have read up on those. They look farking cool. Do you know if those do use electrical pulses to fire the rounds? Its either the G11 or something else H&K makeOriginally Posted by N4CR

400MHz computer if thats what you are getting at haha, they are caseless so I'm guessing electronic ignition, dunno what mechanics can sustain that crazy rate of fire without seriously fucking the recoil-less design anyway.Originally Posted by Sniper

I have a video somewhere from a AC130 and those dudes are using a 105mm gun to take out individual people on the ground so I guess the 50 cal rule is a crock of shit when applied to that.

If the 50 is your crew served weapon (mounted in a hummer for example) then you can go for gold on anything you want but if you have a smaller weapon as a coax 7.62 for example then you have to use that but if you were to have a problem with the coax then you can use the 50 again. clear as mud ?
