If you look closely in one of those pics, the exhaust does actually effect the water, not as impressive as in the painting, but military aircraft are not allowed to fly below 50ft so in order to get a photo of an F-14 looking like the painting you would have to find a pilot willing to get suspended, and nowadays one wanting to get court-martialled for nicking off with a retired aircraft.

Heard many a story of our pilots going lower than that, flying between the funnels on the Leanders and having to look down on the pilots as they went by below the level of the deck
