Looks like this is still the price ($5500) for the bike with Standard front end with racetec emulators. Has Ohlins rear shock. Pretty much the bike in the first picture at the top of the thread. Comes with all the road stuff the back axle stand and a quite a few other bits a pieces.

Whats the cheapest SV650 selling for on Trademe?

I've ridden Glens SV sickle and can't contest to anything except he must be riding the wheels off it to get the results he does..

I'll try to not let my bike take offence at that Gary - as she is a fragile wee thing....., Even if a tad on the ugly side......

Ahh yes, well some things need to stay between friends now don't they...

The bod is fine thanks...can't quite say the same about the bike but following major surgery, a couple of hip replacements and some anastamoses of varying parts, she should have recovered sufficiently from the anaesthetic to make an appearance at the next round...

OK this looks interesting. I have not raced before but have a hankering (and permission surprisingly). So for a complete novice and ignorant please advise what class(es) this can race in, what other bike equipment is required to race, how much racing do you get out of tyres, what tyres are with it, how worn are they and replacement costs. Also do I need a race licence and what is required to get one and what racing safety equipment/clothing will I need. I have a garage and trailer, what tools, what else..... Any information will help with this decision.

EDIT - I found a very informative thread on this site which has answered most of my Q's. I will research a little more and PM if i wish to proceed. Shame it is in Palmy as i am sure seeing the bike would help make my decision.

Do at least 5 trackdays or so before you go racing. You can talk to people there and find out all the info you need plus you might get up to a level where your racing against riders that brake and corner consistantly and you will start to learn whats required to go fast. Then its all hard work from there on in but alot of fun when you have a good days racing.

Trackdays are far more enjoyable than racedays and you get aleast double the tracktime so you will learn. Otherwise attend as many testdays as you can. Just about anyone can be reasonably fast if they put the time in.

If you want the bike that can race in the most classes/racemeetings it would be something like a postclassic/classic bears bike. Problem is it will probably only be competitive in one of those classes.

On that note the SV650 is really only competitive in F3 or Clubmans B (Vic Club) while your learning.

Thank you for your response and advice. I take it that the SV is fine for track days and test days, but it is limited in the categories it can be registered to race in being F3 and clubmans b. An advantage is that I expect it will require less tinkering and be more reliable that a post classic or bears. Is the list of inventory that you listed with the bike in the original post still accurate?

The SV650 is eligible to race in more classes than F3 and Clubmans B. I think the point Garry was making is that while you are learning, those are the only categories it might be competitive in. Garry raced this bike in F2 and F3 (Supersport and superlite) at the most recent round of the VMCC champs and could be considered competitive in both - mind you, the meeting was canned before we could really find out how competitive he was...

An SV is unlikely to ever win F2 but with the right rider they can be very close to the top on some tracks in New Zealand

This bike is an awesome bike to race and will be both forgiving for the learner but also competitive as the learner's skills improve.

I'm even considering buying it myself if you don't!
