    Oops - in trouble again

So I was sort of taking the piss and sort of telling the truth when i responded to the talk about the worlds greatest indian in another forum with my observation that 'Invercargill is a ghastly place - flat, inland and frigid'.
All three times I have been there it's been bloody terrible and i couldn't wait to get to Te Anau.

    Tell me I'm wrong?

    Dave, you are wrong.

Wrong to question the fact that Invercargill is in fact a hole.

I was doing a road trip of the South Island last year and planned on staying a night there.

When we arrived I went to Bluff for the photo at the sign post of course then drove around looking for somewhere to stay. After 10 mins of driving I thought screw this and carried on up to Te Anau and stayed there instead.

Invercargill definitely ain't one of the nicest places of been to and don't plan on going back there again.

Probably about as much of a hole as where I live. Will have to go there sometime and find out.

[Edit:] It actually has some sleepy charm to it, but it's certainly not a tourist destination. (It's a local town, for local people......)

Sorry dude, technically incorrect... its not inland, being on the coast and all...mind you depends how far you consider In'gill to cover these days... Otatara is where i used to live, 5 mins from the beach, and 3 weeks ago when i was there it seemed to have all joined up now, cant believe how big it has got!
Frigid: dunno 'bout that, whaddaya think they do to keep warm at nights?
Flat: errrr well a little bit, but has some lovely hilly roads nearby, where 'tis a nice place to ride a bike.

Tho I do remember having a few floods when i was young, but nothing like the snow we get up here.

As we've discussed before - places are what you make them - but man - purple sky and hail 2-3 visits.

But I hear you about living there not just rolling through.

Bluff. If you're going to give New Zealand an enema, you will be shoving the nozzle into Bluff...

If you think Invercargill is rough, try Bluff or Gore. I stopped for the night at Gore on the way to the Southern Cross last year and was sure I could hear the faint twang of the "Deliverance" theme tune in the distance. Very tempted to put a chair under the door handle of the motel room.

Mitigating all this is the amount of people that are 'from' there. (but live somewhere else)
I don't know anyone who 'is' there.

Anyway - I didn't mean this to be another dis - I just want to know if I have missed the point.

Yes, you are wrong. I have been to Invercargill a number of times, and on one of those trips it was a beautiful day. I remember it well, it was a tuesday in April 1977.

All other trips to Invercargill have been in the rain.
    Time to ride
