    Whats with the hostility?

Been a couple of threads on KB as of late which I have rather loudly and aggresivly put forward my veiwpoint. Im no angel by any means, but what happened to the good old days of, "Well thats you opinion, this is mine, fair enough, want a beer?"

Unlike SARGE, I have not received any red rep which is strange considering at time I offended people and was offended. To me the rep system is a give or take. Like something I say? Then give me green. Dont like something I say, then give me red and say why not. Im not in the habit of sending red back your way just because you did.

The thing that has been getting under my skin (and Ive been told off more than once for voicing it strongly) is if its my opinion, why is it bad? Sure, its wrong in your eyes if I say kill someone for your country because you believe in a cause, but whats with all the aggressive comments telling me Im wrong? If I disagree, I say so, but I dont say you are wrong. If you disagree, fine, but tell me, don't sit and pick holes in my argument. By the same token I may get a bit hot under the collar and say a few things without thinking them through, but at no time does that make me an idiot for my opinion. Treat others opinions with respect because more often than not, a disrespectful comment can change the whole course of an argument.

Remember, its the internet. Take things on the chin. Offer your opinion and if someone challenges it, thats fine, give reasons, but dont find reason to pick holes in anothers argument. Most of KB are intelligent individuals with reasons behind why they say things. Some of the time is a great steaming pile of manure, hell I should know, look at my post count but never disregard what an individual has to say because you disagree. By the same token, don't change your opinion because you are afriad of offending someone.

I hold no grudges against anyone on KB, regardless of what they say to me on the internet. Everyone has their opinion and its just one of things you have to respect. NZ is a unique place where everyone is encouraged to have their own opinion, but voice it and all hell breaks loose. KB is a great place where we are very fortunate to actually be able to voice our opinion on other things as well as motorbikes, but it is still a privlidge and not a right when you think about it.

In short, if you have an opinion, voice it, dont worry if its wrong in others eyes cause no matter what, its will always be challenged by someone. But at the same time, never jump on the band wagon, because its harder to explain your opinion when you are following the crowd. In no way am I sorry for voicing my opinions because that is what I believe, but at the same time, all other opinions are listened to, not disregarded. Dont personally attack someone for what they believe because that more than often just ends up in a fight rather than a healthy debate.

Remember, its just the internet. (I have to try now )

I agree.. personal attacks aren't called for... though having a different opinion and stating it.. now thats a good discussion. =)

Emotions are running high! Its winter the weathers been terrible therefore people cant go out riding as much as they would normally. I dont know about anyone else but a good longish ride does wonders for my bad moods and "down" days but seeing as people cant do that ATM they tend to vent more... Unfortunately people with strong opinions have them for a reason and it bugs some people when others question their opinions. I think people just need to respect that everyone is different and what can be normal to one person is totally unacceptable to someone else.

My view is that one has the right to have an opinion, but in general should not express that opinion when it may cause offense to others - this is called personal restraint. Posting stuff that causes offense is what I think is generally called anti-social behaviour and in the long run only causes more grief than its worth.

There seems to be many people that think that while it is ok in their peer group to make offensive jibes in jest and to use derogatory terms about other people, not everyone finds it funny - especially those who are on the receiving end of the jibe.

There is an old rule - what goes around comes around. So if you dont want to receive shyte, dont dish it out in the first place and if it was accidental, it would be your responsiblity to modify the post when requested to.

I was quite surprised that SARGE made the post that he did, considering that when I asked him by PM to change a post he'd previously made that I found offensive, the end result was the following quote:

no i will not change my post ( name that movie...BLING TO THE FIRST ONE) by the way.. not because i am worried about offending anyone.. because i am tired as fuck of this candy-assed PC bullshit.. once you start censoring yourself, you become a slave to those PC cocksuckers
I notice that the thread it was posted in is now locked.

So I find it very interesting to see him complaining about the very thing he stated he didnt care about.

There is a reason all that PC Shyte exists. Its to stop everyone pissing each other off.

At the end of the day, it really is up to the moderators to be moderating. To me moderating is not about deleting the odd post and sending the odd don't be naughty email out, its about educating people on how to make good posts, develop a good neutral writing style and having respect for other individuals.
The contents of this post are my opinion and may not be subjected to any form of reality
It means I'm not an authority or a teacher, and may not have any experience so take things with a pinch of salt (a.k.a bullshit) rather than fact

    There's PC and then there's shove-it-down-yor-throat-and-don't-you-dare-say-anything-negative-about-any-minority PC.

And I've no time for the latter. (or the first a lot of the time)
