Slightly cross topic here, but was wondering what the difference was between a "gel" type battery and a lead acid type. Can you use the same chargers on both? TIA.

Not really - You will wreck a gell cell by repeated using a unit designed for a lead acid battery. Usually it will try to pump too much charge in too fast and overheat the battery. Not 100% but the internal resistence is quite different.Originally Posted by nigelp
ALL battery types have different charge / discharge characteristics and to get a long life from them they require proper care and attantion. It's usually expained in some detail on the packaging but of course - us being men, would we read it... pfft!
Even be careful with chargers for dry cell rechargables - NiCad is NOT the same as Lithium etc etc.
Cheers
