Ride (read: Crash) report
Hmm, weather wasn't looking to shit hot in the morning. Darn. Never mine it was only 7:30am so there was plenty of day to dry the track out. I was there early to help Bayden (the organiser) set up the track. It looked like it was going to be a technical track. Darn again, because Jay Lawrence is really fast on slow technical tracks!! But in saying that, I could see it was going to be a err 'interesting' track.
?practice?
The 50's went out first, but seeing that there was only three of them, it was called for everyone to go out. So out I went on the FXR150 demon…. For a wet track there was a lot of grip out there!!. Jay even had his knee on the deck in the wet! I was starting to push it harder and harder…. I was catching a lot of time up at the hairpin…. And by hairpin I MEAN HAIRPIN. It was as wide as a normal street.! I used a bit of a cheats way to get around it quickly by putting my foot down and pivoting the bike around me and lunching out of the turn using lots of throttle and clutch… haha… that works very well indeed. After figuring out that my technique works quite well, it came down to how hard I could brake into the corner. Well, I braked too hard one time, which resulted in me on my arse sliding into the tire wall… LOL LOL LOL![]()
I found that quite amasing!! The bike just feel out from under me!! Get up and notice that the back end had slammed into the wall to…. Bye bye rear fairing…..damn.
After that I went back into the pits for a quick inspection, nothing serious broken. Wicked!!
Race:
We had lots of races through out the day. Seen as it was not for points they were all fun races. So when there was enough people on the track, a race would started by everyone lining up on the short straight. The first race I managed to keep it on two wheels. I got into fourth place behind jay in the first race. I managed to get past him on the hairpin… haha I out cornered jay. That does not happen often. In second was a DRZ400 motard. I was faster in the turns and he was faster down the straights. I couldn’t get past him so settled for third. Yeah I bet Jay alright!!
Second race
I got a head of jay and the motard and was in second behind Nathan sergeant. I got past Nathan into First!!. I kept in first for most of the race.. Hmm im sure this race is longer than 6 laps…. Hmmm…. Ah well keep going… until there was some lap traffic at the top right hander. I went around them. But that did not work as the all ran wide! Damn then I watch Nathan hoon up the inside to take the lead! God damn!
I got back around the lap traffic and caught up with Nathan. Down the straight, ahhh ive got him in the hairpin, he runs out wide and I come in way to fast under brakes…scrubbing the speed off with the front… slid slide slide. BANG. Damn on my arse again!! Got back up and finished third again after the crash….. still no damage to the bike.
Race three.
On Jays bike this time. That is a RS125 chassis with a RG50 motor… First impressions were…. Man this thing has no feel….. which it doesn’t until you push it.
It sort of gets to a point where it doesn't want to lean anymore, then it just flops over on its side. WOAH. That’s cool!! I can see why he can corner so hard on it now!. The race starts im in second place, under brakes into the hairpin….. slip…. Slide… no bang though. Damn. I slid out, but did not fall off. Push the bike up with the knee and away we go again… hmm I hope he didn’t see that…. Back into the pits….. whack on the back of the head… yep he saw it… no damage no harm done. But I still feel like a dick for laying his bike down…. Sorry mate…
Race four…
No crashes thank god.
And…. Off the start I got into second place… behind Nathan.. got past him and led him for the rest of the race. It was dry now, and everything on the FXR was scraping the ground.. Knees, pegs muffler…. Elbows…. Well maybe not the elbows, but you know what im saying… the FXR is way to soft in the back end in the dry.. It squats too much while cornering hard. . I keep pushing it hard…. Even get a bit of a gap on Nathan near the end…. YES I WON. This is officially the first race I have won!
I was soo happy… even if it meant nothing…
At the end we just got to play around, so I went out seeing how much I could unweight and slide the back end of the FXR. Its amazing how far you can get the backend side ways yet still be in control!!.
I Won the Crash Bandit award, with Scott Davis in second behind me. We both came off three times. But he did them all on his own bike…
Had a mint day. Now just have to fix up the FXR.
