That would be in the paddock eating grass

Your Arse, however, would be that moon-like monstrosity peering at us over your lowriding Levis

I know the general direction of the Airport but local government has made sure it's fucken hard to get there. There's not even a motorway there from the city. Samoa has one, but we probably paid for it.

As an American it should be very clear to you and it goes to the root of your statement - (no) taxation without representation. If you live here (for the minimum period, I think it's three years) and pay taxes, you should get a say.

I think you'll find it's the same in most democracies.

not in the States.. you have to have Citizenship to cast your vote.. ( not like it matters) also you can have your voting rights revoked if you are convicted of a felony or tax evasion. we also have the Write-In option where we can write anyones name down from dogcatcher to president

i dont vote on a party line when i vote.. we actually have a few months to research candidates before election day .. not like here where the PM can call for a vote whenever her numbers are right.

(guess i shouldnt throw stones though.. look what MY vote counted for last time in the States..)

if residents can vote .. whats to stop a foreign state from loading NZ up with citizens and turning the vote after a few years? ( Welcome to the City Of Sails - New Bejing)

Don't you find it slightly ironic that one of the USA's founding principals (no taxation without representation) is not applied to to a significant minority?

There is no way a foreign state could "load" NZ with citizens - we're talking residents here, not visitors. As you would know, getting residency in NZ is not easy....

You have to be in the country legally to vote. I'm pretty sure even people on work permits can vote, ie tax residents. If you pay tax you have a say.

Ok, just to change the topic a little bit... at the moment everyone is pretty much saying that Helen Clark sucks and does a shit job... And I agree, but looking at all the other MPs we can vote for I don't really like any of the other options either... who would be best to take over?

I had assumed that you've been through the process required to gain residency in NZ. Maybe you haven't - please stand where you are until the Officers from Internal Affairs arrive...
