Rusty Nuts GC - Practice Rides

Ok, I have done it now. Posted my application for the 20th GC.

The problem is I'm hoplessly out of practice for the long rides and need to get some training in before the event.

So, I am looking to get my self hardened up over the next few months.
Starting off with a couple of 500km rides, then working up to 1000km before October.

Pace is usually speed limit + 10, no point in attracting the fuzz. and petrol / food stops as short as possible.

So, if you are up for a ride then lets see what we can work out :-)

I'd be keen to hook up for a long weekend day ride sometime soon. rfc85 is always doing >500k rides in weekends also.

I'm being given orders to vacate the premises tomorrow to allow a quiet study environment again (bugger) hopefully it will be drier & warmer then???

Once I am re-biked, I'd be up for the occasional overnighter -- Taupo and back through Napier after work -- that sort of thing.

Of note saw in the Bike Rider mag whilst getting tire fitted- in a st vs goldwing article a piece by a guy who was pushed into the path of an oncoming car pillioned up and collected the cars right hand side and manged to keep it uprght and pull over safeish, with some broken bones and a broken pannier the only bad thing from a combined speed 200+ crash!

I'd prefer to do it at night, as practice for the GC.

The North and South crews could have a midnight rendezvous at an appropriate (and open) place of culinary conveyance in Taupo.

Butt, bum, bottom I only have a restricted license and my mum doesn't like me to be with strangers after 10 pm or she'll send the piggies after me.

anyone has route maps of previous GC's? so that we know what sort of roads are expected and plan accordingly?

I also found that the forms on RustyNuts's site are not downloadable. So I have taken the form and put it into a word doc. Its not an official form but for your convenience.

    Attached.

I do believe that the GC will be a good traing run for the 1000 miler. The Chatto Creek 1000 that is. It'll be a week later this year, and is planned for the first weekend in December.
    Time to ride
