You are a lucky bastard! Last time I put a bike into a ditch it was a write-off. I was amazed when we pulled yours out to see nothing broken and hardly a scratch. If the only dent was to your pride you got off very lightly. Buy yourself a Lotto ticket!

I'm fine, the bike is fine (a few little scratches but nothing major).

What happened? Well, basically I cocked up. I didn't think the whole semi thing through very well, and when i got past it, i was going too fast.

    I had the choice of:

    a. breaking hard to make the corner....get run over by a truck
    b. breaking hard and not being on 2 wheel.....get run over by a truck and whatever was coming the other way.
    c. go straight through the corner (hopefully dodging whatever was coming, which thankfully was nothing) and try and stay upright at the end.

I went with C, but got the last little bit wrong.

Anyway, I am thinking long and hard about it, it was a really stupid thing to do, and I was riding out of my abilities.

Sorry for being a prat and binning out on what was a really good day, appart from the obvious, I really enjoyed it. And to those that stoped to help me, a huge thanks. Can you either reply to this, or PM me so I know who you were?

    Thanks again, and sorry.
Yes it was a nice ride, especially ambling down the hill, ohh look a big semi, he's what

Just glad you're ok mate, remember to wash all the mud off before ya missus' sees it, otherwise you ain't gonna be allowed back out. you were sooo farkin lucky, don't do it again alright?

Still can't get your image outta my head, just real glad you are ok.

yep, lucky in many respects, might just run down and get a ticket now.

I washed all the mud of, and gave it a kiss and said sorry when i got home, and I myself can't believe how i got out of it without being dead, broken, or my bike broken.

Might need some corning practise me thinks, and without trucks behind me.

    Thanks again.

Oh, Patch, sorry about the image, can't image trying to live life with the image of my arse in the air in my head.

Who me . . silly? not me, you must have the wrong person

Saw two of the plod, one approached from the rear, lights ablazing oh crap he can see that far, but then he went passed as all an pulled into the Cafe, he mustv'e been thirsty after a hard day collecting on behalf of the Gov. coffers.

Be good to try out some more of those really twisty bits that Marty was enlightening us about. Have to organise that some time soon, but only for those who ain't scared of going around the corners at the same speed they like to fly down the straights at. They know who they are - farkin foreigners!

Someone else will have to answer that, I think it was in the hills on the Tauranga road??????not sure which sh that is.

I should have studied hard in geography, although, given I am an OZ, that wouldn't have helped much here.

    Go the Wallabies!!!!

Lets hope there's no semi's when we go back down - A Oz!! There ain't nothing wrong with your corner speed - just maybe a few cobwebs in the old nut on where shall I pass this great big truck. Just be glad you can still learn from this, I know a few that can't.

Thinking about a quick cruise out west in the morning for a couple or three hours - not sure yet. Anyone else thinking the same?

Ps. Wasn't actually refering to you with the corner thing, just the clown who warps it down the straight and then anchors it before a corner that doesn't require that kind of braking. Its almost as bad as zigzaging in front of people who should really be riding staggered.

My GF is a learner, on a 2 wk old VTR250, we were thinking of going for a jaunt out to clevedon/maraetai with her parents after lunch, us on our bikes, them in the cage.

    What time were you thinking?

i'm up for another trip down there - down to coffee & paninis at the rock climbing cafe at wharepapa, then a quick trip via putaruru sh1/sh29 and back down buckland rd. could start from my place, or meet in cambridge first.

if that sounds like a plan i'll start another thread...
