Its hardly ever on the standard domestic channels! Rugby on the other hand is always on domestic tv, constantly over rules all other sports on the news and often the news itself, constantly on the radio, seemingly the only topic of conversation at morning and afternoon tea or in the lift or whatever/wherever. The whole nations psyche is ruled by it........AB's do well the country is happy, they lose and its like the world has ended.....quite pathetic as its only a damn game.
NO I don't think Football is always on TV!
As for ESPN, they only really put on the euro matches generally not english premier league soccer as that is on Sky sport 1/2...
Motogp should be compulsory watching for all people....

i beg to differ... when the barclays cup was on... they (chan 10-13) repeated games late afternoon everyday from the previous day. used to come home every day and watch the last 1/2 of a game.

Bling. My thoughts exactly. No question that the players are skillful but matches that are 90 minutes long and end in a draw?? Thats nuts.

Soccer administrators recognise the danger of spectator boredom and it has been suggested that the goal mouth should be widened. But the problem with that is the poor goalie becomes the whipping boy on the losing team.

Another idea would be to award two points for scoring from outside the penalty box. Works in basketball. IMHO the ideal soccer match would have a final score of 6-5.

They do, penalty shootouts are normally only used because its costs a shyte load of money to book a channel on a satilite for an unknown period of time. They have to provide footage for several billion people - not a couple of lads down the back of a country pub that rugby does.

Really simple. If a chap is in the oppositions half and between the last opposition player and the goal when the ball is played - he is offside.

The only difference now is that they dont take into account people that are not inovled in the game, so people walking back to get onside or injured people. If the ball is played to them or they dont get out of the way of play, then its called interfering and they automatically offside.

Thats probably the only real rule of the game.

    from todays Herald

" MELBOURNE - Australia was in a state of disbelief today after the Socceroos' incredible World Cup soccer journey ended in heartbreak.

A highly dubious stoppage time penalty earned Italy a 1-0 victory over Australia in the second round in Germany, reducing thousands watching the game in public arenas to silence and even tears."

i can't believe that people break down to tears for the fact that there team lost, i know that every country has supporters that will cry when there team is out, but how fucking pathetic is that???? its just a game. Do you see Rossi supporters crying when he doesn't win, or Suzuki supporters crying when yet another blows up during the race, or even Aussie rugby fans crying when they lost the rugby world cup? c'mon, there's worse things going on in the world then loosing a game of football.

doesnt it depend where the ball is at the time he picks it up and which foot he is standing on and which way the wind is blowing?

The vast majority of Aussies follow League and AFL.
Union & Soccer draw smaller crowds that the Basketball.
Was mainly the european immigrants/1st generation tearing up - the Aussie team has 7 Croatians.

    You gotta to be joking.
