Yeah it's usually dodgy RAM these days that screws up things, however since it's a PC Company box it's kinda hard to seperate the crap parts from the rest of the crap parts if you get my drift.
Go to this site: http://www.memtest86.com, download and use the utility to test your RAM. Leave it going as long as you can be bothered. Otherwise it's quite possible something in your box that's died.
