I guess you haven't been getting the blue screen of death on the pc lately then huh? Cant remember when the mac last died on me, as for the PC done it 3 times tonight already. And the mac gets a major workout everyday... processing all sorts of humungous files at times

It shouldn't be crashing with XP much. The problem should be easy enough to track down and fix using the error messages and the info on the blue screen of death.

yeah thats what I figured... XP always better people tell me, and for the last 3 years it has been. Funny how all this shit started over the last 5-6 weeks about the time I told my flatmate to stop using my computer after he abused the privilege.... and i also asked him (he who has just finished his course on computers/IT stuff) and he doesn't have a clue what is might be , not surprising as he is pretty damn clueless anyway.
I will start writing down the info again, but generally it goes something like this:
(0000000000,00000000x,0000000,00000000x) and seems to be different each time....not very helfpul huh?
Does it often when I am moving or copying a document, but sometimes for no reason... I will be reading a message on Kb and it will just stop??
No wonder I get frustrated with Pc's.... they seem to have no fkn logic to them.
Macs system folder is a blessing, everything in one place, altho OS10 does get me more confused at times, with things in funny places.

those blue screen of death stop messages are usually hardware related, and just suddenly after three years its most likely the hard drive on its way out.

If you haven't done something similar already you can scan the hard drive for bad sectors. Best done with the hard drive manufacturers utility, If you don't know what brand of hard drive you have it can be done from the recovery console http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314058/
you want to run chkdsk, type chkdsk c: /r into the recovery console. see if it finds any problems.

If it did turn out to be the hard drive they are quite cheap and easy to replace, it's updating windows after the reinstall thats the killer

it is possibly the harddrive...altho I did get the motherboard replaced about 8 months ago.
I will try the test anyway and see if that is the issue, ta for that!
