Its still very mint for an 87! (Way better than mine!)
If you need any bits check out this auction, he's down your way:
    http://www.trademe.co.nz/a.aspx?id=204625222
I bought the motor, fuel tank, exhaust system and other things from him so I have an '88 bike with a '07 motor.

hehe thanks! she gets cleaned and polished alot, I cant believe I was 4 when they built her!

Oh yes this chappy is who I got my replacement seat off.
    Excellent guy.
Do you have his phone number per chance, I might give him a bell.

He was going to check if he had a matching piece of fairing for me.
I could just visit him I guess. He was a nice chap

    Cheers mate :-)

Man those seats a rubbish for some reason...
I haven't seen many where they are actually not torn.

He seems to be my local GPX wrecker, hmmm wonder if he has some newer tires...

The seat he sold me is completely mint. The old one had nothing wrong with it all, only a tiny hole. He threw it in for free so I took it.
Old one is comfier though, new one needs to be worn in.

being a 249cc inline twin i would expect it to look rather similar to the old engine....

I think she has seen a lot of love since I got her, anything she needs to look better, function better is hers. A labour of love and so enjoyable to ride

I know the old GPX's aren't quite up there with the quickest or best equipped but as a first bike, I love her.

On the to do list, brake pads, new rear fairing part and get choke to work without me holding it, but otherwise...
You can buy a full system exhaust for them from Ebay for about $800, will make it sound mean and give it some extra pep. I'd suggest re-jetting it. Also with older bikes it is important to make sure the valve clearances are kept in check otherwise you'll be losing power.

yes the jetting will probably be helpfull so it doesnt lean out and burn valves and other lovely things, most 250s tend to overheat when their clearances are getting bad, reduces the bmep and volumetric efficiency
