I think had I not been a biker (go back a few years) I just would have watched and done nothing. My mentality is "what if it were me... what would I do or want done". Pretty much sums it up...
Still no call from the scooter rider...

As much as it pains me to say it, I dont think that that attitude is limited to just Auckland. I think its become common practice to think like this all around the world, whether they're young or old, rich or poor etc etc. Alot of people seem to only care about someone else if there's something in it for them.Originally Posted by placidfemme

Ahhh, that would be the one where it's done like a public service announcement and he starts off as "Mr Walker", then turns into "Mr Driver". That cartoon also has a great bit on "merging like a zip" where nobody allows the merging traffic in that all Auckland cagers should have a shifty at. Plonkers.Originally Posted by Squeak the Rat

Very true. Another aspect to look at (which does not in any way justify the actions... but could help explain them).Originally Posted by Str8 Jacket
A lot of cage drivers don't ride bikes, therefore most don't own bikes. So they are completley unaware as to how much bike parts cost. To the untrained cager a bike fairing could look like a piece of plastic... doesn't look as expensive as... say a car panel.
So they might think that the damage is minimal, but really could equate to hundreds of dollors for the poor biker. Before I got into biking I thought bike bits were cheap (lol was I wrong).
So they may believe they havn't really damaged the bike at all, therefore just leaving and not leaving contact details.

Nice to know there are people like you out there. Some jiz bag ran into my car last week, leaving it with about $700 damage. No note no nothing. If I catch this fine upstanding human being I'll rearrange their windscreen I swear to god I will.

Sorry to hear you got done over... there are a lot of low lifes out there. But thats the problem with parking any vehicle anywhere other than the safety of your own garage... or driveway... or whatever...Originally Posted by Insanity_rules

We've had our car bumper hit and badly scraped twice - the first time the guy was seen and someone gave us his description. Turned out he was dropping the car off after it had some work done on it so the owner told us who he was and we went after him for the damage. He didn't pay, but she got fed up and in the end she paid us and said she'd recover it from him. The second time was when we went to the Stones concert in Wellington. Parked in what we thought was a safe place (not close to a corner, etc) and when we got home, there were scrapes in the opposite place to the original ones. It really annoys me, the one time I backed into someone's car (parked outside their house) I did everything I could to find them at the time (they'd gone for a walk along the beach) and when I couldn't, I left my contact details and ensured it all got fixed.
That kind of "the owner isn't here, too late when they come back, no one will know what happened" mentality really pisses me off. Good on you for letting the owners know, I bet they appreciated it.
And tell Sam to chill out, smell the roses - you're a long time dead!
Yes, I am pedantic about spelling and grammar so get used to it!
lol she just hates that I'm obsessed with bikes so much... she thinks I love them more than her...Originally Posted by Beemer

Good on you placid.
I fully believe that if people do a good turn, then it inspires other people to do a good turnIt sounds a bit wishy washy, but it's great to hear about people helping others and I reckon that at least a few people reading this thread will think twice before just walking away (from anything).
Or think twice before messing with your bike, placid![]()
