    Xtra

Hmmm just noticed this press statement:

This weekend, Telecom will start work on a series of upgrades to its broadband network.

The upgrades, which will allow us be completed between 7 and 18 July, will add capacity to the network, so it can meet demand as more and more New Zealanders switch to broadband.

To minimise the impact on customers, any work will be carried out between 1am and 6am. While this is happening, customers might find their broadband connection is unavailable for ten minutes or so.

After this, some customers might also need to reboot their modem by switching it off and restarting it.

If you restart your modem and still can't connect to the Internet, please call Xtra's helpdesk on 0800 CALL XTRA (0800 22 55 98).

So in other words you will no doubt have no broadband for that period !!! call me scinical, but so far these guys have failed to impress on a corporate & personal business level. Lets hope soemone takes em on head first, then they'll realise exactly how shite there services are. A monolopy on a specific market only works for so long !!!!!

BTW - This thread is just a place to vent my hatred of the stupid ( I mean isp's and landline providers).
    Doesn't play well with others

Don't worry, you won't stand out in the crowd. There are plenty of past threads on the topic including me having been fuc*ed over twice. In all fairness though, I've found their service desk people excellent once you manage to get through (1/2 hour after the last incident).

Sorry Bio, but you've mistitled this thread.

You're complaining about Xtra but the press statement says that Telecom is doing the work. Xtra have just about the same level of control over the network as IHug or anybody else.

If you were with IHug or whoever, then you will still lose your connection in these instances, it's not an Xtra caused problem.

Already have to do all of the above, as with all of my other workmates. We either have all got crap routers (don't think so.. some decent hardware between us) OR ELSE THE NETWORK SUCKS TELECOM.

If this don't fix it I'll wonder what the point was going from dialup.. what ADSL just means your internet craps out faster?

edit: the asynch 1mbit frame relay here ain't so shit hot when 2mbit works properly at home either but yeah.. neither of them are great for speed/not being laggy all the time etc. Stupid computers.
And it's my job to fix them :|
