    Engineer/Fabricator Sought

I am after an engineer/precision steel fabricator in Aucks who could have a look at a bracket that I need made up. Will need to be able to work with 12mm (i think) tube which will need to be precision bent, and bits cut off an old bracket and welded up to form the new improved unit. Also would like to get an idea of cost.

    Cheers!

    Engineer

    G'day Brett,

    Three ZXR250s... far canal!

I'm a mechanical CAD engineer, so if you need this sort of thing designed and manufactured I can do it for you. I'm Christchurch-based, but thanks to the wonders of modern technology, the world is a small place.

My kid has a well-used '93 ZXR250C. Between work and my own assorted bike projects, I'm currently in the process of designing some adjustable alloy rearsets for her bike. She's a real shortarse, so the ZXR is the perfect fit for her, but as I'm 6'1" tall, riding her bike rates somewhere between weird and uncomfortable.
The rearsets will give her a better riding position and look trick, but also make the bike easier for me to ride without my knees sitting in my armpits. Once I have the design finalised and the first set manufactured and fitted to her bike, I'll publish some pics and would welcome your comments or criticism. Also, I'm designing a replacement exhaust system and silencer can for the bike too because the existing one is rusted to buggery and undoubtedly robbing the engine of a few small horses.
What else could you do with CAD/CAM capability and a shed full of projects?

Give me a yell on 021 107 1639 and we can discuss your engineering needs, or email me at CADanimal@yahoo.co.nz

    Cheers,

    Brian aka Animal

shucks man, just saw this now since i looked up your profile after the africaans praat. In the end i went and bought a bracket form australia since i was only turning over stones with nothing under them here...wish i had seen this earlier!

Thanks anyway, and will keep in mind that you are handy with CAD and mechanical engineering!
Nail your colours to the mast that all may look upon them and know who you are.
It takes a big man to cry...and an even bigger man to laugh at that man.

    G'day Brett,

Ah shit, that's a pity! When you never replied to my response letting you know that I own a mechanical CAD engineering business, I assumed you'd sorted your bracket issues out. Bugger.

A question for you... given that you have an impressive collection of ZXRs, you wouldn't happen to have a spare swingarm and rear shock lying about? I finally got the engine, rear shock and swingarm out of my kid's project ZXR and it has some nasty bite marks on it from a chain coming off. I clamped the arm onto a surface plate and checked out all the critical dimensions. The swingarm is functionally straight, but she's not happy. Fussy creatures, chicks.

I've sadly made no progress on the rearsets and exhaust system, but I did finish designing some clutch and brake levers to suit her tiny paws. The stock (adjustable) lever mount assemblies don't adjust down far enough, and adjusting the hell out of the cables isn't a viable solution, so I'm making girl-sized ones. Probably have them laser cut on Monday and machined later in the week.

Anyway, check out my other posts / replies / threads etc. You'll see I'm always keen to help fellow riders find solutions to their technical woes.

    Cheers for now,

    Animal
