    Angry Twice in 30 minutes

Yesterday I had an appointment with my immigration lawyer, so after work Sam and I headed into town. After seeing my lawyer, we decided to do a bit of window shopping up and down Queen St for a digital camera (have to love commissions).

Anyway, so we'd checked out the downtown mall and started walking up Queen St... As usual being the bike freak that I am, I notice an older model BMW (looks kinda like a tourer bike... maybe a 600) parked across the road right outside the Jade shop near Queens arcade... Next minute this white twin cab ute reverses right into the bike. From across the road you could hear the fairings crack.

So I'm thinking, yeah watch this asshole do a runner... so I run across the road and check his number plate out. The guy doesn't even get out of his truck/ute and puts his indicator on to pull out into the traffic... unlucky for him it's rush hour and he has to sit there waiting...

During this time I'm saving his number plate/rego to my cell phone and looking around at the shops near by to see which ones are open so I can get some paper and a pen and leave a note on the bike with the guys rego and my mobile number.

As this is happening the biker walks out of nowhere and starts to put his helmet on... not even noticing the damage to his pride and joy on twoo wheels. So I walk up to him and say "hey dude, better check out your fairings, that guy (pointing at the ute still waiting to pull out into the traffic) reversed into your bike and I heard your side fairing crack..."

The biker checks his bike out and no doubt the side fairing has a nice big crack and the screws holding the front part of the fairing to the bike are attached to nothing... The biker looks at the ute and points at it as if to say
"this one? right here?" so I nod and the biker walks to the drivers window and starts talking to the driver.

At this point Sam is bitching about standing around and wasting time, and decides to just walk off. So I have one last look at the biker and driver, seems all good so I leave feeling like i've done my good deed for the day... and it involved a biker so double bonus for me .

Sam and I then walked up Queen St, giving up on the digital camera idea and decide to check out Tommy Gun at Sky City Cinema's, doesn't take us more than 5 minutes to get there, 2 minutes to realise they have shit in stock at the moment and leave to go home...

We're then walking down Elliot St (Where Atrium on Elliot is), we get almost even to Domino's pizza (on the right) and a car park with sky screamer on the left.

For those who know town, there is a bike parking space there (reason why we always walk down that street... some kewl bikes park there... even a KBer with white new fairings on the bike). Anyway, as we get closer to the bike park I comment that theres no nice bikes parked there... just the Domino's pizza delivery scooter thingy (it has a roof... ) and a little red scooter.

No sooner had I said "no nice bikes today" this asshole in a white four door car reverses into the scooter, knocking it over, and scraping it along the ground for at least 30cm+ before he decides to stop... he gets out the car, looks at the damage to his car... and gets back in the car and drives away

So there I am again saving another assholes rego to my phone. then I pop into Domino's grab a serviette (sp) and a pen, write a note to the scooter rider including the car rego, time of incident and my mobile number, run across the road again to #1 Shoe warehouse and grab some cellotape from the very unhelpful assistant.

Get back to the scooter, try to pick it up and place it back on its stand... but either I'm a complete idiot, or the stand was damaged because I couldn't get it to stay upright... so I tape the note to the handle bars, wait around for about 10 minutes hoping the rider will return soon... Sam starts to bitch again so we leave...

I havn't recieved a text or call from the scooter rider, so I'm assuming the damage isn't too bad or he/she just doesn't care (or some asswipe removed the note from the scooter).

So for the two riders... wrong place... wrong time... for me... right place right time...

    Still pisses me off though.

If either of those had been my bike/scooter I would be furious if someone hit it and just drove off...

It always reminds me of the old goofy cartoon, where he's the nicest guy until he gets into his car and turns into a psycho. That seems to be Auckland in a nutshell. Trouble is Aucklanders spend 20% of their waking hours in cars.

Thanks on behalf of both bikers. Not sure why the scooter rider hasn't contacted you, but I'm sure the other biker is very grateful. I would have liked to have been witness to his "conversation" with the ute driver..

I'll be parking my bike in Newmarket on Sunday - can you please keep watch

Really nice work though. Some nice karma points in the bank for you.

[Edit:] both riders are probably just shocked that some one tried to hit them while they weren't on their bikes!

lol unfortunatley I'll be having Sam's mother over for the day ( ) but heres a tip... if your parking your bike in a bike park, make sure its on the side where cages can't try to squeeze inbetween the bike and pavement...

Sams a girl and shes my baby so I have to learn to deal with her impatience...

She's just shitty because she hasn't got a bike anymore, and won't be getting another one for a longgggggg time yet. So she just avoids anything bike related...

altruistic basically implies a concern for others

in your case you actually take it a step further; not only concerned for 'the others' (hmmm, LOST comes to mind..) but their property as well.
wonder if there's a word for THAT?!

    again, nice one!

Only twice in 30mins? Hell I could do alot better than that
To every man upon this earth
    Death cometh sooner or late
And how can a man die better
    Than facing fearful odds
For the ashes of his fathers
And the temples of his Gods

lol make sure its in auckland so I can write down your rego number ok...

I've heard about this happening a few times (here in KB) but i've never actually experienced it or seen it...

Goes to show the mentality of the average Aucklander... no-one saw me so I'll do a runner

When the ute hit the BMW a group of asians were standing right on the kerb, they made a lot of funny noises, but none took the rego number or said anything to the driver... they just watched. They were actually still watching when I walked away. I wonder if they would have done anything if I didn't.
