    Thinking about a Hyosung 250R?

A piece of friendly advice guys.. if you decide to buy one make damn sure you have a good insurance company.

After over 6 months of flawless riding, my brand new '06 250R it finally made love with the cold cement. I wish I had a heroic story to tell about how I was fighting lions and wolverines and they ate the wheel off and knocked me down.. but it happened in a rainy open roof parking lot because I was being an idiot.

Must have been going 10-15kmph on impact and if you had a zxr or cbr you're probably thinking "why didnt you just pick it up and ride home?" well.. the handlebar broke clean off. Inside the was some sort of hybrid cheese/ polysterene looking substance covered by a thin layer of metallic paint.

Took it into the bike shop.. whats the damage? $8660.00 why? the entire chassis needs to be replaced as the handlebar/chassis is one piece

Price of a new one? $6990.00 inc orc

    Gutted.

    Woah easy there...
    Doesn't sound right to me.

Do you mean to say the front of the chassis broke off?

Have you tried taking it in to an engineering shop/chassis expert?

    Welcome to KB.

    Sorry to hear about this........

Keep us informed how the swindlers *cough* I mean insurance companies treat you.

Your story seems to reiterate a lot of others about Hyosungs.

I hope you think of getting a CBR250RR next or if you can find a mint one (very important that "mint"bit) a ZXR250 instead. If you have to have new then get a VTR250. Keystone19 can teach you how to keep up with 600's on it if that's how you like to ride.

I always thought those frames looked flimsy.

I don't think he means just the bars, sounds like the front end snapped off.
How can a frame cost 6999?

I dont see how the handle bars could cost that much. But by the looks of the photo Im sure you could get hanlde bars off something else and put them on.

I'm guessing that was for an insurance quote -

    New handlebars - $$$$$
Either new fairings or a new full bike respray -$$$$$$
    New footpegs - $$$$$
    Etc, etc.......

It all adds up, especially if each piece is purchased at the full retail price.

However seeing it fall apart at such low speeds - would you really like to own one again especially when you will do ten times the speed - 100+Kmph on it??

If that's just the clip on that has broken then you can just replace it.

Unless the frame is damaged then that clip on is attached to fuck all else other than the fork tube.

    Ask swampy, she'll tell you.

just buy a new handle bar mounting bracket thingy, put it on yourself shouldn't take you more then half an hour. and a new wing mirror.
unless it was a 10kph slide down a flights of steers and back up again. then it shouldn't cost more then $150 to fix

Judging from the picture provided it only looks comestically damaged, the handle bar's are clip-ons and can easly be removed with the right tool, and replaced.

I did notice a couple of dents in the upper frame tube running under the tank. This would suggest that all 155kg of the bike (dry) landed on a solid object or there is more to the "collision" than has been said so far.

Can you elaborate on what happened and how you think the damage was caused?

The quoted damage and price of repair doesn't sound right to me, but you haven't told us all the variables, other than you didn't have insurance and acting like an idiot.
