I think we've established that the reason for the exspensive frame replacement is clearly because of the way the bike was dropped.

It has nothing to do with the build quality or design of the Hyosung GT 250R.

Hyofun rule imo. I have an awesome yellow one. I hope I don't have to do a material quality test on it any time soon.

I (like most ppl who have one) have read tonnes of forums and info on hyofuns (as you should before you buy something) and this is the first time I have read about a clip on breaking, or actually anything breaking off (except the usual mirrors, fairings, blinkers etc).

They should just write it off and give you a new yellow one.

Yeah looks that way - I may end up getting another new red one, cashing it in and buying a zxr. But it won't be yellow because everyone knows red bikes go faster

I'll have another chat with monkey wrench at the dealership tomorrow and let you guys know. If I had the money right now for rebuilds and maintenance I'd say fuck it and buy a 2 stroker.. sad state our 4 stroke 250's are in right now with only 10+ yr old cbr/zxr's floating around. Thats pretty much why I went for the shiney new hyosung anyway

Firstly that doesn't say much for the quality of those bikes... drop it at low speed and the handlebar breaks off... I've been into wreckers and bike shops and some of those bikes in there look like they hit a brick wall at 200kph then got run over by about 10 trucks, and I've still never seen one with a snapped off handlebar...

Replacement part costing more than the actual bike... I think that bike shop that quoted you is full of shit....
I'm not a complete idiot... some pieces are missing

All of the 250 4's have been thrashed, they are 2nd hand. What makes the difference is how they have been looked after not what they look like. My bike has been thrashed pretty bad in the weekends every now and then (by me) but has had all mechanical stuff done to it possible to keep it running properly etc. Tuning, valve clearances and camchain, almost noone does valve clearances on these things but I did it as a precaution. This thing has a quite a few times done some expensive $1.50 to $1.90 runs and it's still running strong, 50,000k later... Sucked alot of gas.

I have actually lost count of how many times it has been dropped/lowsided, still ain't broken the handlebars (which are scraped to hell), says something about either the quality of hyosungs or HOW it was dropped... weird.

So yeah, any 250 can look good or be used but well looked after. Check my profile pic.. that's what the bike looks like now (minus rear fairings) and check the link to bikepics for what it used to and will look like again in 1-2 months time. Talk to the seller of your future IL4 250 if you get one and see reciepts and proof of work done on them, I kept all of mine just to show a potential buyer if I ever sell it. Don't get put off by high kms.. seen these things go around the clock and still running same as a 16k bike..

Worked hard but looked after... nuff said. So don't go knocking all the old 250 4's so soon

Damn, i was considering getting a hyosung later this year, so much for that idea i prefer bikes with handlebars that stay on, firmly.

Get a motard. They're a bit more solid and don't have costly fairings

I should take my own advice and get one myself

Tough luck about the crash. They're heavy bikes, the clip-on must have "broken it's fall". Still think that the repair costs are really high. I had an off recently and was charged $580 all up, and that was with a service! What bike shop are you dealing with?

Hope all works out for you, keep us posted on events.
