    20/20 Last night.

Who saw the story on the gang of 13/14 yr olds in ChCh?
My God, how times have changed, gangs used to be called Black Power, Mongrel Mob etc. Now we have the Boys from Shirley.
That's got to be the gayest gang name ever.

Saw it. I couldn't believe the mother that refused to take any responsibility for her sons deviance. She said she was not a violent person but also said that the kids all needed a proper hiding, (probably do but thats not the point) and that she would shoot her own children if the became patched gang members. She obviously doesn't realise that kids learn what they live. Another woman that was an ex mongrel mob tart and was now some sort of community worker made the comment that it all starts in the home. I guess her life experiences have brought her to that conclusion. Its a shame that people can't see the importance of stable family life for children until they have hit rock bottom themselves.

She was a charmer alright. No surprises that her kid is a mouth-breathing waste of DNA.
And why do so many of life's failures want to be social workers?

Because then they can help other no-hopers beat the system by claiming it's all down to their background.

I missed the show, but the Boys from Shirley? Sounds more like the Nancy Boys to me!
Yes, I am pedantic about spelling and grammar so get used to it!

Saw it. Pretty sad. Those kids need to get involved in something constructive/interesting for them - maybe motorcycling!?

What they're doing now is a waste of a good life. Anyway, I guess it's far more complicated than that.

    A bloody good idea actually...

Give them some meaning, company, pride and direction in their lives. A motorcycle isn't the be all and end all, but it's a good reason to meet other people, and those people are usually constructive.

Take 'em to spend a night in the cells, and go see the morgue - see where they'll end up. Give them a few warning signs they can expect to see (i.e. drugs, needles, seeling dope - whatever - I know little about the specifics here) but set that in their mind so when they DO see it something in them kinda clicks - "hey that dude mentioned this way back when - and it's on the way to oblivion..."

Hopefully "cool" isn't the next thought...

I'd love to see a couple of rich, good living people take a couple of these kids aside and show them what life actually does have to offer...

A bit of hard work now and they'll be set for life... coz as it stands, the "Boys from Shirley" title will be the least of their concerns... (more likely to be "Bubba from cell 23")

Maybe MDU, but they seemed far more taken by faux 'gangsta's' in c-rap vids.
Perhaps, in some future time, science will be able to implant another brain cell to give these kids a chance.

Bloody good point re the vids... don't underestiate the power of popular culture (as twisted and demented as it is...)

Like ScumDog said though - good parenting has to help a lot...

The whole thing was pretty tragic really, unfortunately that is just how life is for so many kids today. Me, I am just grateful that my 14 yo has dreams, goals and some direction in life- far too busy to do that shit!

Same reason so many head cases want to be psychologists?

What was the reason you wanted to be a cop again?

Why did you join the MOT? Was it so you could go fast on motorbikes? Its an analogy that could be implied to any profession, some just seem a hell of a lot more appropriate than others.

    Nice come back.
That was a good part of it though. That and making our roads a safer place for me and my mates to use our immunity.
