Pig and dog alike sustain horrific injuries, it's is not dissimilar to dog fighting.

I didn't see the programme but have read the whole thread.... seems to me that this guy got banned from owning a dog for life. There are people in NZ who do just as bad to their kids on a daily basis, but nobody is ever forbidden from having or looking after children in our country. Seems to me our animals are treated a whole lot better and have a much higher value put on their wellbeing than our kids do. No wonder society has gone to the pack.

It's a well known fact that the way people treat their animals is a good indicator of how they treat humans. It's probably in the Bill of Rights or something similar that you can't stop people procreating - otherwise why would those in countries where people are dying of starvation be allowed to breed? And I think you've missed the point - he hasn't been given much more than a slap on the wrist with a wet bus ticket. I am horrified that these animals were treated this way just as I'd be horrified if he had treated his children in a similar manner. But if he'd done the same with his kids, he'd be locked up for years.

I don't think animals have a much higher value put on their wellbeing - but in my opinion, they should. They don't lie, cheat, steal (apart from the choice bits of your dinner or their share of the bed!), assault, murder (killing birds, etc doesn't count), etc and they offer unconditional love in return. How many humans can you say the same about?

Wow, banned from owning a dog for life, what a terrible punishment. He may not personally own dogs in the future but I bet he won't be stepping away from the dog fighting.
Yes, I am pedantic about spelling and grammar so get used to it!

I don't think so, but my point was that for mistreating an animal, you can be banned from owning further animals, but for mistreating kids, you MAY get locked up, but when you get out, the dear old gummint will PAY you to breed more kids, if you so desire. Well in my mind that is totally the wrong way around and very desperately f***ed up. I reiterate, it is no wonder that society is f***ed up.

Did not leaving AKL for Thames teach you anything??? The pigs are just heald at bay by the dogs so that the pig can be shot. There usualy aint much fighting going on, unless the pig is backed into a courner. Are you a vegetarian Mr P or a politically correction orificer? Ive been pig hunting alot in the past and its pretty rare to have an animal severely injured. Give it a rest with the bleeding heart brigade and go and check it out for yourself eh. At this rate you'll be a greenie in no time. They also love to shoot off at the mouth, whie not actually knowing much about what they are talking about...

I don't judge it, but there are parallels to dog fighting nonetheless.

I still think that comparing dog fighting to pig hunting is like comparing chalk to cheese. Oh and for the record, Im dead against dog fighting. My last dog a mastiff I got from the SPCA after it was rescued from wankers that was running dog fighting. First few months was a bit dicey, but he turned out to be a great pet. Was in a awefull state when I got him though, anyone who is caught running dog fights should be wipped in a stockade, publicly.

....And I'll be seriously reflecting on those parallels while I'm stocking my deep freeze with wild pork next week.

I'm with Yungatart on this one. All very well getting your goat up over dogfighting, but are you just as concerned about abortion and child welfare?
