Oh, now we ARE getting off track! Comparing abortion to dog fighting? Spare me! Come on, abortion - whatever your ethical views on it - is a medical procedure carried out - in New Zealand - by registered medical practitioners. Dog fighting is carried out by sub-humans who set one dog on another with the sole aim of fighting - if not to the death - at least to total submission by the other animal. It is barbaric and people place bets on it and go along to watch. When was the last time (apart from a SPUC meeting perhaps) that YOU got to watch an abortion?

As for banning someone from owning an animal for life - how the hell do you think this would be enforced? Do you know of any cases where the police have followed up and bothered to charge anyone with owning an animal when they shouldn't? It's a bit like disqualified drivers - they may be banned from driving for a certain period but it rarely stops them.

Yes, I think we should ensure all children are safe but this thread is not about child abuse OR abortion, it's about dog fighting. Considering many of the children who are abused are abused by the partners of their sole parent, how would banning the abuser from breeding stop this?
