Its not so much as a question of why but a question of why not.

Twizel (or however Dangerous wants to spell it) or Ruralmans shearing shed?

(I know of a fellow biker in Twizel who has a section big enough for all KBers wishing to stay there in a tent)
Hmmm. Are there a choice of restaurants and bars in the shearer's quarters?
Doesn't really worry me anyway. If we go we'll be staying with friends in Twizel. (They just don't know it yet)

The lack of restaurants & bars is the biggest downfall of the Shearers quarters - we either take it in to drink/cook it or we have to go down the road to Otematata. But then the pluses are its virtually free and we're a long way from anyone else as far as noise etc goes.

Seems like theres a bit of a mood for Twizel here - I'll check the poll. I Might have to scrounge a tent again.

I am keen to turn up for my first bike sort of get together thing.

The sheep shaggers (whoops shearers) shack sounds like a great place to stay as I am new to this sort of thing and have no knowledge of where to stay meet or who to look for. I think the bikes may be a hint.

This will be subject to a few things like my new job requirements for hours, and when I find some where permanent to live in Queenstown and when I move in.
I feel like I'm diagonally parked in a parallel universe.

AT this stage I'm planning on riding up via Alexandra on Sat morning, meeting with others there and on the way and then on over the Lindis after lunch. It would work in well with you coming from Queenstown - where are you living now or if you don't settle in Queenstown?

I move up to Central on Friday and will be staying with my parents until we find a rental - we plan at this stage to be renting around the 18th of November as that is when the money from the sale of our house comes through.

I will be working for a computer company in Queenstown with some weekend work requirement - but will have to find out what that means when I start.

But it would be great to meet with someone and travel through - as although i have been riding bikes for a few years - I have never ridden with a group.

Any hints on what is essential items to bring on this sort of thing would be appreciated

First essentials: DON'T bring a brain or an attitude!

But do bring $$, your favourite booze, a good sleeping bag, ear-plugs and a good self-inflating mattress (or a foam 'poofter-pad' if you're not rich)

PM me nearer the time, maybe you, Jantar and I could go up via Cromwell and the Lindis.

    Poll invaders

That bloody poll is being taken over by NI'rs who won't be anywhere near us that weekend.
Anyway it looks like the shearer's quarters has its nose in front at this stage. Just talked with Oldrider and the other option of the Otematata Country Inn @ $30/night/head sounds like a good option if the group wanted a bit more civilisation with bar and restaurants on hand - the Harley groups stay there regularly apparently - you been there Scumdog?
Assuming we end up at the Shearer's Quarters - has anyone got a CD/MP3 player thing they can take that makes enough noise to encourage "social interaction"??????????

$30 a night sounds my kinda booking. How many can the Hotel hold. The one thing I don't want to do is to carry too much. Food Booze bags etc. I kinda like the group stayover. Not that I drink too much these days but if you don't have to ride home..............etc etc.
