Price check isle nine. DT 230

How much do you guys think I should expect to pay for a late model Yammy DT 230?

As some of you know I have spent the last year+ saving for my next bike, well I'm over half way there now, and with the amount I'm having to pay on gas and parking in town. I'm getting damn tempted to just borrow the remainder and use the money I would be saving on parking and gas to pay for it, rather than paying cash.

So really just wanting to know how much for a road ready DT230 (as this is my front runner for purchase) either from a shop, if they ever have any, or privately.

Also a request. If you guys spot one can you let me know. Particularly you Motu, as I'd say you know more about them than anyone.

When I was looking for mine the later model (blue) ones were going in the $6000 to $6500 area, some mint last model (2003) over $7000,and some roughies in the $5000 area....of course once I got mine the prices all dropped a grand at least.Mine is a '97,white with a black seat - they are all the same mechanicly, just clour changes.First were white with red seat, then white black, and the blue ones were the last of them.I paid $4000 for mine privately, well set up with a spare set of wheels and rotors, mechanical speedo for adventure rides, bark busters,3 gearbox sprockets, tyres and a few other odds and ends like bars.I've had mine over a year now and all I've done is wear out tyres...and change the gearbox oil a few times.I still haven't taken it off road much,I can't until I get my road bike going again.

Don't suppose your thinking of selling it?? hehe

Seriously though, it was your post in my motard thread last year which put me on to them.

They must be damn loved by their owners, as I've yet to see one for sale on either trademe or bikepoint in the two odd months I've been looking.

Motu, do you know why Yamaha NZ stopped selling them?

Yamaha stopped production in 2001 I think, they sold run out models until 2003 here,A Yamaha dealer I talked to said they sold well once they caught on,and he'd still be able to sell them today.I suppose it was a good production run by Japanese standards, but not Yamaha standards, who seem to run models longer than the other brands.

Hard to imagine customers would pass them over, can only be because 2 strokes are out of fashion.I suppose it's a bit lardy for a 225cc 2 stroke, but still lighter than all but the latest 250 4 strokes, and it just eats them on power. If you really push it on road the small motor can be noticed, but otherwise the motor just kicks arse!

I actualy paid $4500 for mine, but the previous owner was a small businessman like me - so he gave me a GST receit.I slipped it through my business as Diagnostic Test equipment and claimed the $500 GST.Small businesses get screwed on tax,it's good to sometimes make it work in my favour.

The bike is outstanding for my use....but it's not an open road bike,I still need a bike to use on boring roads.Good luck in your search.
