    Angry Random act of violence

yep, was a victim of a random act of violence last night standing on queen st

had been out until about 4.30am, when I walked out of a club to catch a taxi home... and saw a group of polynesian guys standing around watching one guy giving another fella a hard time on queen st

it looked like he was going to smack him, so, as you do, I watched and waited... probably not the best option in retrospect

the aggressive guy didn't hit the other fellow (who ended up running away) so he walked back to his mates, and me who was standing nearby

as he walked past I asked him if he was ok (or words to that effect) and the guy spins, says "What did you say" and cleanly smacks me in the head

completely dazed me... I stumbled backwards and walked away with my face pouring blood - walked up to burger king to try and clean it up, the guy had opened about a 2 inch cut right above my eye (which had swollen up to the size of a mandarin)

ambulance, ED, x-rays, CT scan & lots of waiting... bloody hell. wrong place at the wrong time. I have fractured my eye socket and have five stitches in my eye lid. awesome. I look like I've been hit by a frying pan...

will post photos if I can work out how to upload them.

no work for a couple of days now, no riding (as I can't see out of that eye or get a helmet on my head), no nothing... mental note for next time, don't ask angry people who look like they are fried on p wanting a fight if they are "alright"

There are some savages out there,,,, Funny though the ones you here about do seem to up hold the stereotypo ( sp intended)

Overall though I was watching for just that when I was in CHCH , all I saw were a lot of young men being just that ,,,young ..a bit rowdy ,,spotty faced yoofs ..in a clapped out car ,,,just being ...yoofs

    hope all heals up,,,

Doesn't sound like you have, Metric. What was the outcome? A copper got stabbed in the stomach with a knife a while ago for pretty much the same scenario. Glad it wasn't worse!

Shite - the same thing happened to a good friend of mine last Sunday morning at 2am, but on K'Rd near Starbucks...
They are trying to get it on video footage as there are camera's around that area. He was knocked out and in hospital overnight.
Ended up with emergancy dentist work being done.
He gets the stitches out this week.
He too did nothing and the dude jumps out of the car and hits him and pushes him over. My friend whacked his head on the footpath when he fell.
He has no memory of what happened as it happened so fast nor much of his time in hospital. He was lucky that he was with two people who rung the ambo and the police.
Yep he reported it to the police.
These dudes were also PI descent as well.

So check to see if there is any camera's operating in that area as soon as possible. These dudes have to be caught.

I've lived in Auckland all my life and over the years growing up I've both witnessed & heard of multiple accounts of violence on Queen Street, and most were just random acts like what happened to you Metric. Usually it's some Mike Tyson wannabe in a group (tougher around his mates you see) who 'steps out' the victim for a leather jacket or basketball boots, sometimes they'll just ask for money or a smoke and if refused throw a punch.

Sounds like he hurt you bad, get well soon.

Well hopefully the offenders in these cases got tickets for speeding when fleeing from each incident.

have you laid a police complaint, get the f*cker on an assault charge, so many camera's around, one of them is bound to have got a look at him, and someone with such an obvious personality disorder is bound to be known to the cops

    Shit Metric, not good!

Shit a brick Metric that is bad news. Hope you heal up well soon.
It's probably useless information but I can remember when that sort of thing was almost non existent and that goes for almost all of what is now known as "Oceania".
I used to sail all round the South Pacific Islands mainly based from Auckland and the racial problems of today were practically unknown.
Sure we had the odd scrap but even then you usually ended up friends as a result.
I played rugby and boxed with heaps of Islanders (Tuna Scanlan period) and had nothing but respect for them both here and in their own countries.
Maori pakeha relations were so good then you hardly even thought about there being much difference, we were all just New Zealanders having a good life.
I don't know how things got like they are, wish I knew so I could help change it back. Cheers John.
PS: Maybe I helped cause it, I hope not.
