Just a suggestion: Rather than needing a larger helmet size, you might just need a different shape. Manufacturers have different shaped helmets. My boyfriend has a big nut and he finds he can fit a 2XL in some brands and a 3XL in others, but it's much more dependent on shape rather than size.

Also I would suggest actually trying them on in shops, not ordering off the net. Ask the shop if they will order a larger size in for you to try, with no obligation to buy. Also ask advice from good retailers and they will be able to tell you which brand is most likely to suit your head shape.

Good luck in your quest and yay for riders with big nuts!

I completely agree, try a different brand... I started off with an HJC XXL, and then bought a XXXL cause it wasn't comfortable (squashing my head)... after a while I realised the XXXL wasn't working to splendidly either... I then tried on an XL Shark... most comfortable helmet I've ever used!!!

Yeah, it's definitely worth exploring other brands... when I first heard that Sharks only made up to XL, I thought... nah, that won't fit, why even bother, but a couple months later, I tried one, and I pretty much told the salesman... Hold this for me, I'll be back in a little bit with the money

    Personal experiences:

    1. Bell do XXXL, but fit a VERY 'round' head.

    2. For years I took an XXXL in Arai Signet, but the Vector they replaced it with fits me excellently in XXL.

    3. Shoei do their Multitec in XXL and XXXL - the XXXL fits really big heads and the XXL fits slightly less big heads.

    Good luck!

Brands: My boyfriend finds that Shoei and HJC helmets are the right shape for him, but other brands aren't. His head is kind of... [tries to think up non-offending ways to describe it]... narrow and long, rather than round.

So if you could measure through his head from ear to ear it wouldn't be far, but the distance from his chin to the top back of his head is the one that means he has to get a bigger helmet.

I think in general Shoei is better for long heads and Arai is better for round heads!

I don't know about retailers in Northland, but in Auckland we have found Motomail in College Hill really helpful, and also Cycletreads in Barry's Point Rd. They were both willing to order in helmets for him to try, with no obligation to buy.
