Are you a fashion conscious rider?

I sat at the lights on the way into work today. A very busy intersection in Welly, 3 lanes of traffic merging with another 2 lanes from the right (Coming from Thorndon along by the Train Station).
A very nice young lady pulled up alongside on a scooter. Little pink shoes matching the little pink jacket and matching pink fingerless gloves. Obviously very fashion conscious.

    Stupid but fashionable!!!!!

She was not the only one I saw. Must have passed about 10 scooters along Thorndon and I would say only one had any kind of protection.

It never fails to amaze me, the stupidity of some of the scooter riders out there.
I'm only wearing black until they develop something darker

We came, We listened, And in one voice we answered
    BULLSHIT!! BULLSHIT!! BULLSHIT!! BULLSHIT!! BULLSHIT!!

Yes, I am. I am still waiting for my pink racing suit.

Suggested to a girl on a scooter at the servo, that she try rubbing her ski gloves along the chip seal, to see how well they would hold up, amongst other things, The next time I see her, she is telling me she has started practising emergency braking!!
A life changed for the better!!

Although I agree it's dumb, I can understand it. For most people, a scooter's just a faster bicycle, and to have to buy expensive protective gear, put it on, carry it about, store it, etc. is just too much trouble.
I picked one scooterist up off the road a few years ago after a collision with a car, and every time since then that I've seen him, he's still not wearing adequate protection, so it didn't give him the learn.

    His choice.

I'd rather that than mandated safety gear. The SafetyNazis have given us too many rules and regs already, phukkem.
    ... and that's what I think.

    Or summat.

    Or maybe not...

    Dunno really....

I do 50kph on my bicycle frequently and wouldn't dream of wearing anything more than my skin tight lycra one piece suit (baggies, t-shirt, gloves and helmet actually).

    What's the difference?

But Hawkeye I see your point. A lot of it is ignorance, but some is choice.

I guess if it is an issue we could lower the speed limit

    Me? No.

But the more well dressed women in scooters and bikes, the better.

Though I will look pretty special when I get my metallic pink helmet.

I wondered when you were getting a helmet to match your leathers! When you getting the bike painted?

Don't you people realise scooters riders don't require safety equipment because they have smaller cc engines and therefore are never involved in accidents?
You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say will be quoted out of context, then used against you.

As I keep telling cyclists who give me shit about riding a motorcycle, a cyclist is just 100kg of cheap mince in a lycra bag.

You choice though. Except I would be a little bit pissy if I hadn't accessed the ACC account quite so much, because I really would like to know why cyclists don't have to pay an ACC levy to ride on the road.

Same reason pedestrians don't have to pay ACC to cross the road.....

Actually I don't ride on the road much anymore, too many idiots in cars trying to kill me. Prefer mountain biking but have to sell the bike due to one too many concussions.... so might have to get back on the road to keep fit. And of course mountain biking doesn't contribute much to ACC stats.....

Sorry that's not an answer. That's LTNZ reasoning if I ever saw it. Cyclists don't cross the road, they block whole lanes of highway, travelling in the same direction of the traffic for 10s, and sometimes 100s of kilometers. I'd still like to know why they don;t pay an ACC levy.
