Okay about me. My name’s Si. I’m 30yrs old. I was born in Christchurch, grew up in Hamilton and the family moved to Auckland when I was 10. For coin I work as a graphic artist for an agency in the city. Been doing this type of work for about 12 years now. It’s a great occupation but also means that I have wussy office hands.
As far as motorcycles go, I don’t really know where the interest started. Our neighbours had one when I was about 15, as did my cousin who runs a dairy farm. Then a couple of years ago my sis bought me a ticket to Crusty Demons. That show just blew me away! I did a quadbike safari a couple of years ago and that was a blast. I decided there and then that I wanted a bike of my own.
There was a slight problem… I am a mad keen fisherman too. The problem being, I also wanted a boat. The boat ended up getting priority and late 2004 I bought myself a 5m runabout. Still got the boat and I love it to bits. Only problem is getting time to use it with all this weather we get in Aucks.
As far as getting a bike goes, I’ve been saving my arse off for the past few months and am now pretty much ready to make the purchase. In the meantime I’ve been going to the shops, looking at websites and reading as much stuff as I can.
The main reasons I’m keen on the XR250L is that everything I’ve heard about it so far has been good, it’s got a good rep as a learners bike, and the fact that Blue Wing Honda were the most helpful when I had questions. Good service is important to me. I was pretty annoyed by the service I got from one of the other companies as I had bought one of their 4 stroke outboards for my boat.
Apart from motorcycles, other things I’m interested in are music, painting, and of course – fishing. I also write a column for New Zealand Fishing Coast to Coast magazine.
I’m looking forward to being a part of this site. Learning a few things and maybe one day being able to share what I’ve learnt out there on and off the beaten track.
