If it can alleviate future hospiatal waiting lists by giving government agencies crucial data for forward planning then I don't have a problem. This country does not have a good record with our children's health. Now I'm no expert on this but it seems to me that we are suffering from the American disease; conspiricies and big brother syndrom.

Our health system is no excuse to begin 24x7 monitoring of citizens. It isn't a conspiracy theory, and if you think it will improve our health system, you're wrong. If you want decent timely health care you have to have health insurance. If you need cancer treatment you should move to Australia. The public health system in NZ is focussed on reducing Government spend, not improving health care.

Had a look at the link you posted. On what it said I still don't have a problem. There will awlays be people who see things that are not there. Considering the social problems that this country has at present any attempt that adresses these problems has got to be better than doing nothing.

and jim, i know that the heel prick is a bloodtyping thing, not a dna database thing, but as i said, i have used it a few times to confirm identity of someone (only for deaths - not for criminal matters), but i can see a time in the NTDF that dna profiling at/pre birth will become the norm.

I still can't see why everyones up in arms over this. So the Government's got your blood typ, so what, so the governments got your DNA, so what.

So how is this going to impede on your personal freedom?

Now if they (government) were going to micro chip babies now that's another story...........and please don't tell me that that's the next step, because if you do I'm going to want to know where that info comes from.

Now there's nothing wrong with cynacism.............but it's not too far away from paranoria.
