Nicko - Pukie 5th Round & Nats Roundup

    Hi Guys,

Puke race report from nats & wrap up for the season below...

    Pukekohe Nationals round 5.
Missed round 4 at Manfield due to Sound of Thunder but made round 5 of Nats at Puke, didn't make practice & hadn't been at Puke for a year (so much for the home track) but first practice down to flat 62's. Got down to 61.5's for qualifying and 8th on grid. Trumpy was good but hell where did the bumps come from before the hill and on turn one! Unfortunately didn't really have time to play with settings so into races on Sunday to give it a nudge. Race one, good start in behind Tony Rees, end of back straight a long way from Tony Rees (R6's are fast!) had a good dice with James Smith on the Gixxer all race swapping positions every 2nd lap and finished up about .02 secs alongside him after some fun passing some back markers. Second race crap start but got onto James after about 4th lap, diced with him for a while, battery terminal came loose on lap 8 resulting in loss of power into corners (fun at turn 1) and finished 10th while dicing with him & Steve Wood on the Kwaka - good riding Stevie! Got into the 60's in race one which was one of the goals for the weekend so happy with that, long way off the 58.1 Sam did in qualifying tho so definitely some bar raising going on there!

Finished up the nationals in top ten, well tenth to be precise so happy with top ten and 4 of 5 rounds competed. Not sure I'll race full season next year was a real learning curve setting up a bike for the first time and excuse me for the short report and longwinded thanks but huge ups to the sponsors below for all their support couldn't have done it without you.

    Thanks a million to....

Craig Draper at Fredco Motors, a mate and a great supporter of motorsport - Aucklanders go get your car fixed/serviced/wofed there guys! FREDCO 093775123

AMPS - Go see Auckland Motorcycle Powersports if you're after a bike or parts, they have & dyno & Gav knows how to use it. Cheers to Ray, Pat, Greg and all the crew there.

Triumph - gotta thank them for making the 675 and for their support during the season, as far as race or road bikes go you can't beat the 675 - quality as good if not better than the rice burners, beats some of the thou's on the track & you can race in BEARS!

Metzeler Tyres - Racetechs kept me rubber side up all season - not one self inflicted crash all season and bettered my laptimes at every circuit - thanks Malcom & the team at Forbes & Davies!

Castrol Oil - It's a Triumph and it didn't leak a drop! R4 Superbike oil was awesome, kept the changes up and didn't miss a beat - thanks Castrol!

Waikato Sandblasting - My bike didn't get that good looking by accident, it just got roughed up that way! Thanks to Greg Powell at Waikato Sandblasting Services for the paint job, anyone who needs a sandblast or paintjob just call 0800 SANDBLAST

Corsa Motorcycle Dismantlers - Thanks for sorting the Woodcraft alternator cover, rearsets & clip ons, Rick will have your size for bits call 0274054045

FFM - great matt black lid & pretty mirrored visor so you can't see my ugly mug!

Forma - nice boots with all the bells and whistles & magnesium toe sliders for green sparks to put off the opposition.

SDV - helped me with a shipping bits & pieces along the way - talk to Ray he's a good man!

Protecta Insurance - if you need a bike insurance policy talk to these guys, bike friendly & very reasonable rates, supporters of AMCC so they're already looking after us.

Vesrah - one set of pads lasted me 5 rounds on the Trumpy and stopped as good at the first and last round!

Frosty - you're a ledge mate, huge learning curve racing the nats & not only did you look after me carting the bike around & shifting my a** from airports to track but you spent every second on the track working on your race-craft & developing your attitude towards the track. Good things to come mate. Thanks.

Cherie - Again, another ledge looking after me & Frosty down South, great attitude & awesome seeing you at the racedays since. Thanks.

Dad, Peggy & Phil - Thanks so much for your support & efforts at the track, from Wanganui to Taupo last weekend you've been there, Cheers!

Dobsy - Fellow 675 rider, great dices all season & awesome support from you buddy good luck for the IOM & can't say enough about your help & the kiwi attitude to racing - Lion Reds coming your way.

Fellow racers over the nats - James, Chris (675), Geoff, Derek, Craig, Brad, Steve, Jay, Jeremy, John, Jonno, Brooksey, Jason and others thanks for your dicing & good times over the season.

    Sam - congrats bro.

And thanks to all the Kiwibiker crew for their support over the season in messages & buying my used tyres & bits! Look forward to reporting some more results soon.

    Cheers,
    Nicko

Congrats on the top ten dude after only four rounds. Your bike and your whole setup looked really professional this year (well it did till some tossa knocked ya off ). I have been very impressed with your riding this season. That Trumpy is pretty quick. Keep it up Good to see ya keeping Doc Martin honest at the club champs too.

Yeah bro!! Admit to having occasional wanton thoughts about 675s, and it is all your fault!! Loved every second of the nats, all because of the good company!!
