Hey ride fast & hard but think about who you are influencing & their ability.
Fully agree with you, and I/we have actively discouraged 'newbies' from trying to keep up.

Having said that - many bikers have been attempting to get over that hill as quickly as possible for many years, and will continue to do so for many years to come.

As long as they keep making sportsbikes, some riders will continue to push their limits, regardless of what anyone says to them.

Yeap, and I greatly appreciate it; my first trtnr/kb ride was out to wainui coast with Madboy, Deano and a few others - madboy pulled me over and told me to take it at my own pace - because of this I instantly respected him and still do respect him today.

When out riding with the some of the faster guys I let them go do their thing - it doesnt bother me at all.

Well everyone knows I'm the fastest anyway. I also like to impress newbs by showing them how fast I am, and how I can lane split at 100kmh.

Actually I like to impress newbies on the condition I keep my bike in, and by waving to cars that pull over, and by waving to them for being out on a bike. As for timed events, the only one I'm interested in is the Gladstone hill climb which is a controlled event, to which I might add Deano is the current Welly hardcore champ. (Till next time boyo)

As for bragging who the quickest up the hill is, well thats like bragging who can lay the biggest turd, because no two days are the same and and the end of the day who cares.

A time is objective - but as stated, what or who do you compare it to? Words like "quick" "fast" etc are subjective. It's your own opinion that matters, no one else's.

I came back from a track day and was stoked how fast I went over the hill. Felt bloody fast, but I still would have had to wait some time for someone to come along that was slower than me.

Its all relative as you say.

If I can keep up with someone who I respect for a part of the climb, then Im happy.

The problem with what Pickle has said is you have absolutely no control over what anyone else choses to do. Pickle no doubt you have passed other bikes on the hill - once you did tootle past me on your KLR when we were all poncing about following Paul on his Guzzi as runs leader one day for example.

Now if I was some noob unknown to you and decided to chase off down the hill after you whether you are on your ZX or KLR and crashed before you realised I was trying to stay with you how can you say "yes I like to ride fast but I do it in such a way that I'm not encouraging others to try & keep up or try things i can do when I know their ability is not to any sort of level where they can safely keep up"? As soon as you pass anyone they may all of a sudden think their prowess is under threat and take off out of their depth. Do you slow down immediately you pass? Yeah right!! What if you don't see them doing this behind you?

The point is biking is a rather individualistic thing and we cannot be responsible for people we don't know and you can't ride the bike for them. Sure talk to our own noobs and encourage them to develop skills before they get out of their depth and I think the KB crew are doing that well. Otherwise lead by example and try not to do things too dumb ourselves.
    Cheers

Thats because normally after the first corner me and my bike have parted company.

From the bridge by Kaitoke gardens to the first of the twin bridges on the Featherston side (or vice versa). And seven-and-a-half minutes may or may not be quick...

There was a thread about this as Hitcher has pointed out - from memory, 7.5 minutes was about as quick as I recall from the thread, the likes of Dave Hiscock ???? Not as much traffic back then though...and bikes not as fast or refined.
