Pop in fuel-tank about 3km before reserve

Every-time I am about to hit reserve, I hear a loudish pop noise emanating from deep in the fuel tank. It happens about 3km before the spluttering starts.

Any ideas as to what this could be?

    Cheers

Dunno - but I wouldn't fix it - sounds handy!

Maybe the tanks emptying and sucking one of the panels?

I get the same thing, always assumed it's the bike farting back through the carbies.

Pressure change as fuel level drops?

That will be your low motion lotion level alarm.
You're lucky that you have one, they are quite hard to find.
I think they should be fitted to every bike. I was going to put one on mine but I couldn't find a distributor, and besides, I wouldn't be able to hear it anyway.

I wouldn't say it's THAT handy. I hit reserve pretty soon afterwards anyway.

Yeah, I will check this. It only started after I got it back from a head-gasket replacement so they had the tank off. Could make sense.

    Cheers bro.

Try this: it always does it when the tank gets low right? Well, try opening the tank before it has had a chance to pop (assuming you've ridden it from filling it up to the top). See if it makes the same sort of thing (or something similar) when you open the tank. If it does, the tank must be making a vacumn inside itself, which might point towards a blocked breather.

    It's sucking air and burping.
Don't let it get so low that it starts to fart.

A ZXR400 can't even get to reserve without doing that?

I had a look at the breather hose and it looks fine. However, when I hit reserve yesterday, no pop. Hmmm. Problem solved? Nothing like these random things to keep me sane.
