Arse. The bike is ready to pick up at Mt Eden M/C, but my friendly rider-transporting buddy is too tied up to drop me off.
Nice night too, I was looking forward to it!!

Yeah, Massey (just down the road from Shell Westgate) to Mt Eden. So close, but yet so.................far!

Somewhat of a disaster for me.

Got to Shell all good, and spent a fair bit of time ogling the hardware, particularly the lovely Speed Four. Listened intently at the briefing, and set off towards the front, I figured that everyone would pass me anyway, so at least this way I can stick left and hopefully end up at the destination at a reasonable hour.

All well and good, got left for dust as expected, and had a few cornering issues, took one right-hander too wide, and ended up on the left shoulder where the tarmac turns to gravel, and got a little shaky, as I had a bad case of target-fixation going on. Straightened up OK, and thought that there is no point in even attempting to keep up, so I slowed down a little to a pace that I was more comfortable with, and started enjoying the roads.

Got passed by another group, and ended up all on my lonesome. Made a couple of turns, where the 'marshal' was standing, and saw no bikes in sight in front, or behind.

Fair enough I thought, i'm ahead of the tail party, but behind the barn-stormers. Ended up going on for quite a while with no action going on. I hadn't seen any corners that I was supposed to take, so I figured to just keep heading straight ahead. Eventually, I came to a T-intersection, with no 'marshal'.

Bugger. I'm lost. And in Wellsford.

Obviously missed a turn somewhere, and just kept going north. Stopped, texted Pancakes to let him know I wasn't face down in a ditch somewhere, and proceeded to travel the 80-odd Kays back to Auckland on SH1. Phenomenally boring. Got home at 9pm on the dot.

Next week, I intend to stay at the rear-party, always in view of the tail-end Charlie.

Cool meeting some of you guys, and cheers for showing me a few new cool roads. Look forward to joining you on the final one for the year next week.

Big thanks and ups to Chocky (Jason) who helped me out yesterday - I was resigned to watching crap on telly last night (bike at Mt Eden M/C, no way of getting in to pick it up) when he pm'd me and picked me up. Had a great ride and a few laughs afterwards.
I owe you a beer buddy!

    LOL @ Skiddy

Well that was a good way to lose my ATNR virginity... no crashes, involvement or scary moments and I got to discover some of the nifty back roads around dairy flat.

Was also good to put faces to names. Cheers

Sorry but you've just been claimed by the Infamous Kaukapakapa Turn Off. After turning right at the Church you go round a left hand bend then immediately need to make a right turn.

If you aren't used to this part it is easy to be concentrating on fanging it around the corner and totally miss the guy parked up on the corner.

Perhaps it should be included in the briefing that if you get to Kaukapakapa you've missed the turn.

Oh well sounds like you had a good night regardless

    See you out there.

.... back in green and feeling great ....
